Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I seldom post you something for a second time but I do so now with
this brief statement from Adam Trombly below because it is so totally
right on! Also I'll include some comments from Brian O'Leary.
Europe, Australia, Canada and several other homeplanet sectors now
are degenerating into deeper and deeper police-state conditions at a
pace nearly as swift as in the US. What underlies this is a shared
(though sometimes unconscious) understanding that there's no longer
enough to go around on this planet. In short, a psychology of
Because mass media so frequently glamorize greed, the response to
this scarcity on balance has been: Hey, I'm gonna get mine while I
still can. Thus another Vicious Cycling is born: the recognition of
the scarcity increases the pace of the rip-off that led to the scarcity
in the first place!
It's possible to overcome the dynamic of Vicious Cycling--but the
process usually is arduous and complicated.
It seems to me our best chance at it now is to reach folks
everywhere with the good news about an energy path--zero point--which
"will meet the complete needs of this very troubled planet", rendering
socalled peak oil academic. First, though, we must arrange a way to
demonstrate convincingly its extraordinary value.

Yours for avoiding mediocrity,

Hi all,

Thanks for creating this discussion, Keith, and
thanks for your cogent remarks, Raleigh. I see you are a
real advocate of solar hydrogen of the concentrating
kind, and I too give it very high grades compared to
nuclear, for sure. I have no serious issue with
your ideas in helping promote ecologically friendly
concepts that are now available such as this.
Fossil fuels and nukes are very bad for our health! Even
biofuels are better, or, as you suggest, solar
hydrogen. Or solar or wind, improving efficiency, etc.

I only wish to point out that most analysts have
totally neglected the possibility of a new energy
technology coming on line to provide a quantum leap
of improvement in full life cycle environmental and
economic cost. Neglect of considering this
possibility can help suppress the R&D itself. It's
perhaps like ignoring what the Wright brothers were
doing and assuming dirigibles and balloons would be
the sole future of aviation. Throughout history,
innovation has taken a back seat to conventional

Warming 'Threat to Asian

Grim scenario of disease and disaster

By Geoff Hiscock, CNN
Tuesday, June 13, 2006 Posted: 0432 GMT (1232 HKT)

SYDNEY, Australia (CNN) -- Rapid global warming poses a variety of
security threats to the Asia Pacific region that have been "seriously
underestimated," a new study says.

The report, released Tuesday by a Sydney-based think tank, paints a
grim scenario of disease, food and water shortages, natural disasters,
territorial tensions and mass population movements threatening
political stability in the region.

Rising sea levels, for example, could threaten heavily urbanized parts
of Asia, such as China's Yellow and Yangzi River deltas, and heavily
populated low-lying countries such as Bangladesh, the report entitled
"Heating up the Planet: Climate Change and Security," by the Lowy
Institute says.

Warmer temperatures could see the greater spread of infectious
diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, while extreme weather events
could diminish food and clean water supplies.

And large, unregulated movements of people could put a heavy strain on
the capacity of nations to cope, particularly if there are pre-existing
ethnic and social tensions.

Besides Bangladesh and China's east coast, other communities at risk
from rising sea levels include Manila Bay in the Philippines, the
coastal fringes of Indonesia's Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan, and the
Mekong, Chao Phraya and Irrawaddy deltas in Vietnam, Thailand and
Myanmar respectively.

Many small islands in the Pacific would be inundated, while the loss of
economic rights associated with atolls and rocky outcrops off the East
Asian coast could trigger territorial tensions.

The authors, Australian academics Dr. Alan Dupont and Dr. Graeme
Pearman, argue that "there is no longer much doubt that the world is
facing a prolonged period of planetary warming," that has been fueled
largely by modern lifestyles.

Tipping point

They say that while people have coped with climate change in the past
when it has been spread over centuries or longer, it is the potential
rapidity of change that makes the threat so significant now.

"Compressed within the space of a single century, global warming will
present far more daunting challenges of human and biological
adaptation," they say.

Abrupt climate change could push the plant's fragile ecosystem "past an
environmental tripping point from which there will be no winners,"
Dupont and Pearman say.

The most effective way to lessen the security risk of this prospective
climate change is to reduce the level of greenhouse gases that are
responsible for heating up the planet.

The Lowy Institute report says the impact of climate change will add to
destabilizing pressures on the region.

It points to low-lying countries such as Bangladesh, where a one-meter
rise in sea-level would flood 17.5 percent of its area and much of its
food basket in the Ganges River delta.

"Far from exaggerating the impact of climate change, it is possible
that scientists may have underestimated the threat," the study's
authors say.

They identify a number of climatic wild cards, which are
low-probability events with high impact. They include the collapse of
the global Thermohaline (deep-ocean) Circulation, which could trigger a
rapid cooling of Europe's climate, a de-oxygenation of the deep ocean,
and reduced capacity of the oceans to absorb part of the released
carbon dioxide.

They say another wild card may be the way aerosols are masking the real
level of global warming, pointing to the Asian "brown haze" that
stretches from the northern Indian Ocean to China and Southeast Asia
during the northern summer.

Five complications

According to the report, climate change will complicate the regional
security environment in several ways:

Weather extremes and greater fluctuations in rainfall and temperatures
could quickly refashion the Asia-Pacific region's productive landscape
and exacerbate food, water and energy scarcities. Rising sea levels are
of particular concern because of the density of coastal populations and
the potential for large-scale displacement of people in Asia.

Climate change will contribute to destabilizing, unregulated population
movements in Asia and the Pacific. While most of these flows are likely
to be internal, their ripple effects will be felt beyond the borders of
the states most affected, requiring cooperative regional solutions.

More extreme weather patterns will result in greater death and
destruction from natural disasters, adding to the burden on poorer
countries and stretching the resources and coping ability of even the
most developed nations.

Extreme weather events and climate-related disasters will not only
trigger short-term disease spikes but also have more enduring health
security consequences, since some infectious diseases will become more
widespread as the planet heats up.

Even if not catastrophic in themselves, the cumulative impact of rising
temperatures, sea levels and more mega droughts on agriculture, fresh
water and energy could threaten the security of states in the region by
reducing their carrying capacity below a minimum threshold.

The study concludes with a number of recommendations, including a cut
in the level of greenhouse gases.

It says this would require a "fundamental transformation" of the
world's approach to energy use, with cleaner coal, more fuel-efficient
hybrid cars and the increased use of gas, nuclear power and renewable
energy sources.

It says relying on fossil fuels inevitably would warm the planet to
levels that would put unprecedented stress on its ecosystem, and
"challenge the adaptive capacities of future generations."

Subject: [911TruthAction] Police Death Squad Activity discussed on PID
radio this week

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, a three part interview
will be posted on peeringintodarkness radio. I will be discussing in
some detail the genesis of the federal attack on my family. Names will
be named--who precisely engineered the attempted murder of Dr. Amalie
Phelan,as well as names of police officers involved in the hits. The
relevance of this to other victims of death squad activity--Jim
Hatfield, Gary Webb, etc., will also be discussed. The concept of
"templates"-- legal means which are being deployed to deprive
activists and others of their civil rights and, in reality, their
lives, will also be introduced.

In the final section of the interview, some attention will be given to
the concept of "spiritual warfare," which explains, in part, why some
people are being targetted and others, who are more prominent, are
being left alone.

The interviews will be permanently archived on the pidradio website.

Meet with Mahathir Mohamad

Group Seeks Dr Mahathir's Assistance to Reopen 9-11 Investigation

From Bernama
The Malaysian National News Service

PUTRAJAYA (Bernama) -- A group of concerned Americans and their
sympathisers has sought the support of former prime minister Tun Dr
Mahathir Mohamad in their effort to push for an international
investigation into the Sept 11 2001 (9-11) tragedy.

Representatives of the group, including a survivor of the attacks on
the World Trade Centre (WTC) in New York, met Dr Mahathir here Monday
with a claim that the official version of what transpired on that day
was far from the truth.

"We want him (Dr Mahathir who is chairman of Perdana Global Peace
Organisation) to help us set up an international commission to reopen
the investigation," said Jimmy Walter who has brought together
individuals under the Reopen 911 organisation dedicated to opening a
real investigation into the tragic attacks.

Joining him today were American Free Press journalist Michael Collins
Piper, Yvonne Ridley who is the political editor of Islam Channel
United Kingdom and William Rodriguez -- the last man to run out of the
WTC before it collapsed.

They claimed to have evidence that the towers came down in a controlled
demolition, and that a much bigger agenda lurked behind the war on
terror, unleashed soon after with the attack on Afghanistan and Iraq by
United States-led forces.

Convinced that that was what really happened, the Reopen 911
organisation is offering US$1 million to anyone who can prove that
explosives were not used in the catastrophe that killed thousands.

Recounting his ordeal, Rodriguez, a janitor of Puerto Rico descent,
said he heard a huge explosion occurring in the basement of the North
Tower seconds before an aircraft struck the building.

He single-handedly rescued 15 persons from the WTC, and as Rodriguez
was the only person at the site with the master key to the North Tower
stairwells, he led firefighters up the stairwell, unlocking doors as
they ascended, thereby aiding in the successful evacuation of unknown
hundreds of those who survived.

"We have access to evidence and information... that we realise that the
whole thing was a scheme. The government knew it was going to happen,
they needed to shock the world so they can create an agenda and have an
excuse to attack Iraq, Afghanistan and others," said the man who was
recognised as a national hero.

Rodriguez said the so-called international war on terror meant that
there would be a never-ending war that would benefit entities like
weapon manufacturers.

Journalist Piper said that everything in the US revolved around 9-11
with the survivors held up as heroes and Americans told that it was
important to honour them as well as those who died.

"But here is the problem -- although they put his (Rodriguez's) face on
magazines, they will not tell you what he really has to say. What he
told you today has never been reported by major US newspapers or
newsmagazines," he said.

Piper said the fact was that in the US today there were "Jewish and
Christian extremists" who used their combination of money and influence
in Washington, taking command of the levers of power.

"And we are saying we do not appreciate this, they do not represent us,
nor do they represent most Americans of all races," he said.

Piper said it was important for Malaysia and Muslims all over the world
to realise that the agenda of the detractors of Islam was much bigger
than events in West Asia.

"Islam is considered to be a major pillar of opposition to the
establishment of a worldwide empire. The image they convey is that
(former Iraqi leader) Saddam Hussein is an evil man, so we have to
eliminate him.

"Now they say we have to go after the Iranians because they are
building nuclear weapons, ignoring of course the fact that it was
Israel who started the arms race in West Asia," he said.

The team is also heading for countries like Chile, Venezuela, Japan,
South Africa and the UK to canvass support for the reopening of 911

Florida House Candidate to Face Litany
of Criminal Charges After Alleging Vote Fraud

By Miriam Raftery
Raw Story

Monday 12 June 2006

In an exclusive interview with Florida House of Representatives
candidate Charlie Grapski - arrested after he filed a lawsuit alleging
voting fraud against Alachua County City Manager Clovis Watson, RAW
STORY learns of corruption allegations that can only be described as
not seen since the days of Boss Tweed.

Charlie Grapski, a Democrat running for the Florida House of
Representatives, was arrested in April after filing a lawsuit alleging
that City officials abused power and influenced the outcome of an
election by manipulating the absentee voting process. The story,
however, does not start or end with election fraud allegations. What
Grapski tells is a tale that one cannot imagine occurring in a law
abiding country, one of false arrest, intimidation, and a
crony-business system all centered around money interests.

Clovis Watson is not only the City Manager of Alachua county and,
as such, the defendant in Grapski's lawsuit, he is also the Police
Commissioner of Alachua, Florida, a town dominated by the Republican
Party and pro-development Democrats. Watson, one website alleges, is
funded by the Alachua County Republican Party, and declined to accept
the Democrat of the Year Award because he is planning a switch to the
Republican Party. The site also takes aim at Grapski.

According to Grapski, "Clovis Watson filed a sworn complaint as a
police officer himself, and as City Manager he was the aggrieved party.
As Police Commissioner, he was his own boss and accepted the sworn
complaint from himself - and then instructed his subordinates on the
police force to have me arrested."

Now, RAW STORY has learned, the Sheriff's office has announced
that additional charges, including felony wiretapping, will be filed
against Grapski and Michael Canney, a Green Party member who witnessed
and videotaped Grapski's efforts to obtain public records.

In this exclusive interview with RAW STORY on June 11, 2006,
Grapski reveals startling details of his situation and updates
regarding an election outcome allegedly changed by absentee ballot
manipulation. He also levels serious allegations of abuse of power by
public officials, including officials linked to President George W.
Bush's brother, Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

Raw Story's Miriam Raftery: What was your background before you
decided to run for public office?

Charlie Grapski: I'm a political scientist and political theorist.
I taught those topics at the University of Florida. I am finishing two
doctorates, one in politics and one in law; that's a PhD in law, not a
JD. I've been involved in local politics for a long time as an
activist. I served on a campaign charter review board for the City of

RS: How did you become involved in election reform?

CG: I've been involved in election reform a long time and have been
pushing for election reform through charter review board this year.

RS: Let's go back to April and what happened that that started all
the troubles leading up to your arrest.

CG: On April 11th there was an election in the City of Alachua.
That's part of my district that I'm running for. I went up to the
polling location to meet people and get petitions signed and campaign
for my candidacy. I knew of some problems in Alachua, but I didn't know
how bad they were; people came to me with all sorts of concerns. I said
"I'll stay around to watch the vote count on election night." So I went
there and saw a number of violations of the law. This was at City Hall.
The City officials conducted the elections themselves, which is

RS: What happened next?

CG: I began investigating this matter and speaking to other people
who conveyed stories of their experiences in the election. What they
were alleging is that city officials abused their authority and power
and actually manipulated the election outcome through use of the
absentee ballot process.

RS: How did they manipulate the absentee ballot process, in your

CG: More will come out this week, but in effect they improperly
influenced citizens who cast absentee ballots and instructed them on
how to cast them. This included Clovis Watson, the City Manager who is
also the Police commissioner. He served on the canvassing board, which
is supposed to be neutral, and he is the one who personally arrested
me. Another one is Alan Henderson, the City Deputy Clerk, he acted as
supervisor of elections for that election.

RS: Were they on the ballot themselves?

CG: No. They influenced the election for a guy named James Lewis.
He won the election by 18 absentee ballots but lost it prior to the
absentee ballots being counted. This was his election to his 40th
consecutive commission. He was on the City Commission (like a City
Council). Basically they went up and actively influenced voters on how
to vote.

RS: Could that be legal campaigning?

CG: Not if you're a city official and an election official ... I
don't want to go into too much detail, but in the conduct of giving
people ballots they were also engaged in telling them how to cast the
ballots. We believe that this is not the first time that they have done

RS: Did they try to influence the general public, or are you
referring to City employees?

CG: We know that one of the ways they did this was to the general
public ... people that work for the city are either part of the problem
or they are afraid to stand up against it. The people in the City of
Alachua are afraid of retaliation by the public officials and the
police officials if they stand up to the government. People are
literally afraid.

RS: What did you do that started the trouble you're facing?

CG: The first thing I did was I began investigating on my own and
organizing and explaining to people what the law was, after the April
11 election. We began talking to others. I spoke to a law professor and
former Mayor of Gainesville. His name is Joe Little. He said these are
very serious problems and we need to do something about them. We met
and discussed it, then I brought citizens of Alachua down to his office
and we discussed what we knew. At that point we began interviewing
people who were unduly influenced in the election. The things we found
out were beyond your imagination. We have an amended complaint being
filed this week (week of June 19, 2006).

RS: When was the earlier complaint filed?

CG: We filed a complaint April 23 against the city officials
including the mayor and Clovis Watson.

RS: What happened after that?

CG: Later that week, what I began to do was review all of the
records of the election to strengthen the case as we wrote up the
filing and to document what we knew, to make sure we were correct in
our allegations. On Thursday after filing the lawsuit I filed a formal
public records request under Florida law with Alan Henderson (the City
Deputy Clerk who is also Supervisor of Elections). He is required under
law to have those documents ready every day by noon. I said I'd come in
on Friday of that week to review the documents. I also knew that with a
similar problem ten years ago, the City destroyed the records and told
citizens they no longer existed.

RS: So you had reason to be suspicious?

CG: The City's normal approach even to City Commissioners they
didn't like was to deny them the public records. So I went in on that
Friday with a witness, Eileen McCoy, who was the sole plaintiff at the
time, a resident of Alachua. A lot of people were afraid to put their
name on the complaint, but she did. I brought my video recorder,
because if the city was going to tell me lies or deny me records I
wanted a record of that. So I walked in and I told Alan Henderson that
I was recording him even though I didn't have to tell him, and he even
talked to the recorder to make sure he was being heard clearly.

RS: Did he give you any records?

CG: He basically denied me the records. I said put it in writing
and give me the reason you're denying access.' And he called the

RS: What was your reaction and what happened next? Were you
surprised that the police were called?

CG: Whenever anybody comes to City Hall in Alachua and speaks up,
they call the police force. Clovis Watson holds more than one office
(City Manager/Police Commissioner/Clerk Canvassing Board Member). It's
unlawful in state of FL to hold 2 offices.... Then Clovis came in and
began speaking; a few minutes into it said I notice you're recording
me. He said "If I don't give consent, that's a felony." I said, "No,
you can clearly see that I'm recording, two is that you're continuing
to talk, and three is you're a public official engaged in public
business." He actually wrote in a memorandum to the City Commission
that he had no problem being recorded.

RS: So they arrested you?

CG: He didn't arrest me that day. He then said I could review the
records Monday at 10:30. Over the weekend he e-mailed me asking for a
copy of the tape. I said I'd consider it ... He asked to be notified in
advance if I planned to record him. I said "Be on notice that I will
record all my transactions with you." I came in on Monday, began
reviewing the records and in the middle of doing that he came out with
a police chief and two armed officers and arrested me for what is a
felony wiretap statute.

RS: Is that a state, local or federal statute?

CG: It's a state law intended to make wiretapping illegal. Clovis
Watson filed a sworn complaint as a police officer himself, and as City
Manager he was the aggrieved party, as police commissioner he was his
own boss and accepted the sworn complaint from himself and then
instructed his subordinates on the police force to have me arrested!
All along, he is the defendant in the elections lawsuit we filed!

RS: What did the Mayor have to say about all of this?

CG: The Mayor (Jean Calderwood) had been appointed in the past by
Jeb Bush. Her husband was the treasurer of the James Lewis campaign.
She's also a defendant in the case. She's come out publicly in the
newspapers over the weekend saying that she was in constant
communication with Clovis Watson to arrange my being arrested ... She
said Clovis Watson did not go out on a limb alone, he was in constant
communication with her ... She said that in a letter to the editor of
the newspaper editor.

RS: Can you send me a copy of that editorial?

CG: Yes, I will scan in that and some other documents.

RS: When was the arrest and what's the status of your case now?

CG: I was arrested May 1st in City Hall. There are photos online A judge ordered my release by 5:00 that day.
Someone in sheriff's office decided to hold me over and we had to wake
up another judge at midnight to have the original judge's order

RS: Did you have to post bail?

CG: I was released on my own recognizance.

RS: What's happened since then?

CG: It only got worse from there. I tried to get the records I'd
been seeking. The city put obstacles in our way and refused to turn
over the documents. Michael Canney, a member of the Green Party, came
as a witness and saw me arrested. He then began filing public records
requests himself to get access to records they've denied me. Slowly
but surely we began getting some documents.... One that we've been
asking for and still haven't given us is a log of requests for all the
absentee ballots. They think we are requesting the log to find out who
cast ballots so we could interview them. We already know who cast
ballots and are in the process of interviewing them. We have another
reason.... But the City officials, Clovis Watson sent out a memorandum
accusing us of intimidating voters and threatened to arrest us for

RS: On what grounds?

CG: When Michael received a list of absentee ballot voters, not the
one we requested but another one, Clovis Watson sent a certified letter
warning him about how he uses that list. They then put an ad in the
newspaper for the last two weeks telling people who voted absentee that
if we contact them, they should contact the city so they can take legal

RS: How many people voted absentee ?

CG: There were about 120 requests for absentee ballots, of which
107 were counted. Without all the records we can't say for certain

RS: Were there people who say they turned in an absentee ballot
request but their ballots weren't counted? In other words, do you have
reason to believe there was any destruction of ballots?

CG: There was destruction of ballots, but in a different context.
Now on May 15th I went into the City Commission; it decided to try to
pass the conclusions of election in a consent agenda item, which is
illegal. I went to that meeting and attempted to have them follow rules
and law. They threatened to have me arrested that night. After that
meeting, the Mayor sent a memo to Clovis Watson asking him to have me

RS: On what grounds?

CG: Saying I violated conditions of my release from jail by
attending a meeting, they called it disruption. Of course my
"disruption" was to basically make points of order, formal motions
under the rules. That they called disruptive.

RS: Were you arrested again?

CG: No, but they were threatening to; it came very close. Last week
the city commission met again. They thought I would be there but I
wasn't there for other reasons. But the City had arranged to have a
local TV station there and they were going to arrest me that night on
TV. Clovis Watson, when he arrested me the first time on May 1st , sent
out press releases to the media so it was a very staged event.

RS: How is the media responding? Is there any outrage?

CG: The Gainesville Sun, which is the biggest paper in town, their
coverage hasn't been the best but they did run an editorial and a great
editorial cartoon and they are very concerned about it. Now Hugh
Calderwood, the mayor's husband and Stafford Jones the chairman of the
Republican Party for Alachua County and the Republican Party of Alachua
County has put up a website designed to attack me and draw a line in
the sand for Alachua County, which they designate as a model of how a
city should be run. See links on the site. The High
Springs Herald has done the best job so far of reporting this. They
have been reporting it weekly. Another, the Observer is not online but
we'll be putting it up online today.

RS: Has there been any national coverage?

CG: The first national was in LA CityBeat on Thursday, an article
by Andrew Gumbel, who wrote the book Steal This Vote.

RS: What's happening now?

CG: This week the Sheriff's office and the Sheriff, a guy named
Steve Oelrich, a Republican running for the State Senate right now, on
Friday I was contacted by the Gainesville sun and informed (because
they alerted the newspaper and not me) that the Sheriff's office is
filing two further complaints against me for unlawful taping. They are
accusing me of felony violations of the law and now filing two charges
against Michael Canney for videotaping. The irony of this of course, is
that when I contacted the television news with videotape of one of the
incidents that they (the officials) claim Michael violated the law by
videotaping, Michael videotaped me audio taping Clovis Watson. But the
television station was there too, videotaping. They showed this on the
news, yet Michael and I are being charged with videotaping while the
television station isn't - and they were there doing the exact same
thing at the exact same time. That's how absurd this whole thing is.

RS: When will these charges be heard?

CG: The State Attorney's office has not formally charged us, but
they've refused to drop the charges, so they are playing this game of
harassment. They know the minute they drop the charges we will go on
the offense and bring false arrest and civil rights charges. To make
matters worse, the former state attorney who many in state attorney
office work for is Rod Smith, a Democrat running for Governor. Rod
Smith is from Alachua and he wrote Clovis Watson's dual office-holding

RS: Is Clovis Watson a Republican?

CG: Clovis Watson is a Democrat who the Republican Party says on
their website is coming over to the Republican Party. But Rod Smith is
a player. There is another dimension to what's happening in Alachua
County. The County of Alachua is one of the two Democratic voting areas
in Florida; the rest of the state has gone Republican. The Republican
Party has taken over the City of Alachua and basically opened it up for
drive-through development. There are all kinds of land deals where
these city officials and cronies are benefiting by development of land,
including Rod Smith. We're talking a Wal-Mart distribution center, a
Wal-Mart super-center and a Home Depot ... They can't get these
developed in Alachua County so they absolutely have control over some
of these small towns. They are just opening doors for unrestrained
growth and development - multi-millions of dollars changing hands.

RS: What is the party affiliation of the other key players?

CG: Henderson - I have no idea. He used to be a journalist I
believe;... I'm told he may have family relationship with one of key
political players. Calderwood, the Mayor, is a Republican appointed by
Jeb Bush; she also served on the water board which had to approve the
development for all of this. Her husband, Hugh Calderwood, he and
chairman of Rep. Party are putting all this stuff on the attack site
openly under their own names now. It used to be done anonymously on
blogs. Steve Oelrich, the Sheriff, is a Republican. Bill Cervone, State
Attorney, is a Republican. He was assistant State Attorney under Rod
Smith, the Democrat.

RS: So this is basically Republicans abusing power and causing
these problems, except for Smith and Clovis, who's converting to become
a Republican?

CG: There are some Democrats, old style southern Democrats who are
very development oriented. As for Clovis being recruited by
Republicans, I don't think there is any Democrat in the county who
would miss him. If you see the free Alachua site, there are all kinds
of charges of corruption within the police dept under Clovis, a number
of allegations going on around that. When you start seeing the stories
and documents it will blow your mind.

RS: How optimistic are you about the outcome of all of this, and
what are the implications?

CG: If you can clean up one city, you can clean up the whole
country. But if you can't clean up one city, we have no chance at the
national level. I see a lot of significance in this one case, because
it is a small example of what's going on nationally, and it's a lot
easier to tackle corruption at the local level, which is the root and
foundation of national problems. I'm confident in the end that in terms
of justice, I know that what we are doing is on the side of justice.
What these officials know is that they have the power and authority and
they can abuse it with very little repercussions to themselves
normally. They have a lot of power and resources. They are used to
people being afraid to stand up.... But as long as we keep fighting and
pushing this issue, I believe in the end that we will prevail. But it's
a struggle to do that. We have mounting legal bills and we are trying
to raise money nationally to help with that (see
for how you can help).

RS: Do the officials there control the court system, too?

CG: It's very much a company town, and it all depends on what judge
we get. Unfortunately, on our elections challenge case, we found that
in another open records case a few months ago the judge completely
ignored the law, and we've got that on appeal right now. This judge is
Robert Roundtree, he is also a Bush appointee. He basically threw out
with prejudice a lawsuit filed by the residents of the City of Alachua
regarding this multi-million dollar land deal that was the basis of the
Wal-Mart land deal with a company called Waco of Alabama. Their lawyer
had medical problems at the time and missed a filing deadline and the
judge, instead of reprimanding the lawyer, used that opportunity to
throw out the case without ever hearing it on the merits, so we don't
have a lot of faith in him. But there are other judges in town. The
problem is that the more local you are, there is a culture among public
officials ... and they all have this unwritten rule not to go after
each other - so nobody polices the police and nobody holds to account
public officials. They have nearly free reign in anything they do.
There is one other factor. On the Alachua City Commission, and thus the
boss of Clovis Watson, is a woman named Bonnie Burgess. She is running
for the State House in the same State House race I am, as a
developer-friendly Democrat. These people are supporting her run for
that office as well - Clovis and the Calderwoods, the powers-that-be in
the City of Alachua.

RS: When is your primary election?

CG: September fifth.

RS: Who else is in the race?

CG: There are three Democrats and one Republican, but this is a
Democratic district, so they know that whoever wins the Democratic
primary is going to win the race.

Diplomatic Defeat - by Gareth Porter

Despite claims that U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has
regained the diplomatic initiative from Iran with a conditional offer
to join multilateral talks with Tehran, the real story behind the
policy shift is that the administration has suffered a decisive defeat
of its effort to get international sanctions for possible military
action against Iran.

U.S. officials and French and British diplomats have sought to obscure
the failure to get the agreement of Russia and China to a hard-line UN
Security Council resolution making Iranian compliance mandatory if it
refused to suspend its uranium enrichment activities. Nevertheless,
details of the proposal finally given to Iran and Russia's subsequent
statement both confirm that the administration has had to accept a
package without the threat of Security Council action it had counted

Subject: [bluegreenearth] fwd: Indigenous March in Support of Chavez
in Venezuela

Caracas, Venezuela, June 10, 2006Hundreds of
representatives from various indigenous Venezuelan ethnicities marched
in Caracas on Wednesday in the "First National March of the Indigenous

The march was organized by the National Indigenous Council
of Venezuela (CONIVE) and was held in support of Venezuelan President
Chavez, against US military operations in Caribbean waters, in support
Venezuela's withdrawal from the Andean Community of Nations (CAN), and
for the unity of their communities in Venezuela. According to CONIVE,
march was the first of many indigenous
mobilizations which will be "heating up the streets" over the next 6
months.CONIVE was born in 1989 and is composed of 60 organizations
and representatives from 32 indigenous ethnic groups including the
Yucpa, Wayuu, Timotes, Panare, Yanomami and Yecuana, among
others."Here we are raising our hands for the first time to say,
enough The indigenous peoples in Venezuela are united, we are united
because it's the only way to advance, it's the only road to speak
loudly and I
believe that that's what we are doing right now," declared CONIVE
President and
National Assembly representative, Nicia Maldonado at the beginning of
march. "We wanted to express this to the President of the Republic,
that the indigenous people are going to give the first shout and [the
election] on December 3rd, isn't just any old thing, it is about
saving ourselves, about dignity for the indigenous people."

The march was also joined by indigenous from Peru
and Ecuador. "The withdrawal from CAN makes us very happy, because,
off, it helps us to protect our traditional knowledge. That space was
there to sell off the traditional knowledge and the natural resources,
without even
consulting the organizations we also say that we
support Chavez' politics in terms of the G-3. We are happy that you
have gone, you have to analyze all of the spaces
of power, because for us they are tentacles of imperialism," said
Maldonado."We are also saying to the government of Mr. Bush, take all
your military that you have in the Caribbean and get out, because
here, we want peace, we want to live, because we are in search of our
greatness, our
spirituality and the flourishing of our liberty." She said, "we don't
want war, we want peace, because the liberation is here in Venezuela.
You can't
call President Chavez an imperialist, because you are the imperialists
and when you speak about
President Chavez, you are speaking about the indigenous people."As the
march wound its way towards the Presidential Palace
of Miraflores, it paused at the Attorney General's office, the National
Assembly and the Vice-President's office, to deliver three respective
documents declaring the unity of Venezuela's indigenous, offering their
support to
President Chavez, condemning the recent elimination by the supreme
court (TSJ) of a constitutional article against the violence against
women and
calling for increased consultation with all of Venezuela's indigenous.
"We are
calling for the construction and the institution of
the Organic Law of Political Participation of the Indigenous People
which says that they must consult the indigenous people and ask that
consult all of the people, not just a small part," said
Maldonado.Maldonado further
expressed that she believes
Venezuela's indigenous can offer 300,000 votes towards Chavez' goal of
10 million
in this December's presidential elections."What we wanted to express in
documents is that here are the indigenous peoples, and they can count
on our support," she said.
According to Representative Maldonado, who represents
approximately 30,000 indigenous peoples from 25 communities in the
southern Venezuelan states of Apure and Amazonia, there are
approximately 800,000
indigenous in Venezuela. Chapter 8 of the 2001 Venezuelan Constitution
protects the rights of Venezuela's indigenous peoples: "The state
recognizes the existence of the indigenous people
and communities, their social, political and economic organization,
cultures, uses and customs, languages and religions, as well as their
habitat, original rights to the land that their ancestors traditionally
occupied and that is necessary for their development and in order to
their way of life." Reads Article 119.

But even with protection under the Constitution, many
indigenous participants in the march expressed grave problems. "We are
losing our culture. Without culture, we can't live, so we are
trying to revive our indigenous culture, so that it is re-born again,"
said Valerio Hernandez, one of 300 indigenous fishermen, farmers and
artisans from the Macuro Delta who traveled to Caracas for the march.
transportation and health are also difficult, because the doctors don't
arrive to where we are. And
we don't have the means of communication or transportation. We don't
anything and that's how we have been, well, stepped on. But now we want
to shed light on this"While overwhelmingly supporting President
Chavez, CONIVE also lent their support to the indigenous people
struggling against
the exploration of coal on their "sacred" lands in the state of Zulia,
which has become a
controversial issue in Venezuela over the last few years. "For the
Yucpa people, that land is sacred," said Maldonado
"and the President has said, that if you can't save the land, the coal
will stay under ground I think that's
important. We are defending and
accompanying our Yucpa brothers the
companies can't just come and kick them off our president has said
that it's a question of dialoging between the
people and the government, the coal companies and the international
organizations We are convinced that through the dialogue with the
companies we will come to a solution, but they need to respect us, and
they can't disrespect our sacred sites."

As the sun set on Wednesday evening most of the participants
in the march were filing back onto their buses and preparing to head
home, but Maldonado expressed that this is just the beginning and that
they are
planning numerous demonstrations for June, July and beyond."Right now
we are
going to incorporate in to the events. On June 22, we are going to
unite the masses with mobilizations in all of the states." Said
"After August, everything will be headed towards 10 million [votes]."
Interestingly, just beyond the Vice-President's Office, the
road over Llaguno Bridge (the infamous site of the April 11, 2002
towards the presidential palace, Miraflores, was blocked by an armored
vehicle and several anti-riot police dressed in storm-trooper gear.An
with another group of armored police blocking a
side street stated that it was not the indigenous march but the
students that they were prepared for. The official
said that the students had "promised violence" and vowed to go to
Miraflores. The Venezuelan daily, Ultimas Noticias, reported on
Thursday, that students from the
Central Venezuelan University were on the streets last Wednesday,
protesting against "the persecution" of University of the Andes student
Moreno, who has been accused of instigating the recent violence in
Merida, and for
which a Venezuelan court has issued an arrest warrant. No conflicts
the military guards and the students were reported.

JINSA/PNAC Neocons Under Cheney Pushed US to War for Israel and Oil

And they are now pushing for an American nuclear attack on Iran.

They have to be considered the prime suspects behind 9/11, and behind any future false flag terrorist attacks on American soil, including nuclear attacks.

An important point concerning oil: the objective of the neocons has never been to acquire reliable and affordable oil for Americans; it has been to smash the Arab oil weapon on behalf of Israeli strategic interests, regardless of any negative effects on Americans.

Bush Administration Quietly Plans NAFTA Super Highway --

Bush Administration Quietly Plans NAFTA Super Highway

by Jerome R. Corsi
Posted Jun 12, 2006

Quietly but systematically, the Bush Administration is advancing the plan to build a huge NAFTA Super Highway, four football-fields-wide, through the heart of the U.S. along Interstate 35, from the Mexican border at Laredo, Tex., to the Canadian border north of Duluth, Minn.

Once complete, the new road will allow containers from the Far East to enter the United States through the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas, bypassing the Longshoreman's Union in the process. The Mexican trucks, without the involvement of the Teamsters Union, will drive on what will be the nation's most modern highway straight into the heart of America. The Mexican trucks will cross border in FAST lanes, checked only electronically by the new "SENTRI" system. The first customs stop will be a Mexican customs office in Kansas City, their new Smart Port complex, a facility being built for Mexico at a cost of $3 million to the U.S. taxpayers in Kansas City.

As incredible as this plan may seem to some readers, the first Trans-Texas Corridor segment of the NAFTA Super Highway is ready to begin construction next year. Various U.S. government agencies, dozens of state agencies, and scores of private NGOs (non-governmental organizations) have been working behind the scenes to create the NAFTA Super Highway, despite the lack of comment on the plan by President Bush. The American public is largely asleep to this key piece of the coming "North American Union" that government planners in the new trilateral region of United States, Canada and Mexico are about to drive into reality.

Just examine the following websites to get a feel for the magnitude of NAFTA Super Highway planning that has been going on without any new congressional legislation directly authorizing the construction of the planned international corridor through the center of the country.

a.. NASCO, the North America SuperCorridor Coalition Inc., is a "non-profit organization dedicated to developing the world's first international, integrated and secure, multi-modal transportation system along the International Mid-Continent Trade and Transportation Corridor to improve both the trade competitiveness and quality of life in North America." Where does that sentence say anything about the USA? Still, NASCO has received $2.5 million in earmarks from the U.S. Department of Transportation to plan the NAFTA Super Highway as a 10-lane limited-access road (five lanes in each direction) plus passenger and freight rail lines running alongside pipelines laid for oil and natural gas. One glance at the map of the NAFTA Super Highway on the front page of the NASCO website will make clear that the design is to connect Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. into one transportation system.

b.. Kansas City SmartPort Inc. is an "investor based organization supported by the public and private sector" to create the key hub on the NAFTA Super Highway. At the Kansas City SmartPort, the containers from the Far East can be transferred to trucks going east and west, dramatically reducing the ground transportation time dropping the containers off in Los Angeles or Long Beach involves for most of the country. A brochure on the SmartPort website describes the plan in glowing terms: "For those who live in Kansas City, the idea of receiving containers nonstop from the Far East by way of Mexico may sound unlikely, but later this month that seemingly far-fetched notion will become a reality."
c.. The U.S. government has housed within the Department of Commerce (DOC) an "SPP office" that is dedicated to organizing the many working groups laboring within the executive branches of the U.S., Mexico and Canada to create the regulatory reality for the Security and Prosperity Partnership. The SPP agreement was signed by Bush, President Vicente Fox, and then-Prime Minister Paul Martin in Waco, Tex., on March 23, 2005. According to the DOC website, a U.S.-Mexico Joint Working Committee on Transportation Planning has finalized a plan such that "(m)ethods for detecting bottlenecks on the U.S.-Mexico border will be developed and low cost/high impact projects identified in bottleneck studies will be constructed or implemented." The report notes that new SENTRI travel lanes on the Mexican border will be constructed this year. The border at Laredo should be reduced to an electronic speed bump for the Mexican trucks containing goods from the Far East to enter the U.S. on their way to the Kansas City SmartPort.

d.. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is overseeing the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) as the first leg of the NAFTA Super Highway. A 4,000-page environmental impact statement has already been completed and public hearings are scheduled for five weeks, beginning next month, in July 2006. The billions involved will be provided by a foreign company, Cintra Concessions de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A. of Spain. As a consequence, the TTC will be privately operated, leased to the Cintra consortium to be operated as a toll-road.
The details of the NAFTA Super Highway are hidden in plan view. Still, Bush has not given speeches to bring the NAFTA Super Highway plans to the full attention of the American public. Missing in the move toward creating a North American Union is the robust public debate that preceded the decision to form the European Union. All this may be for calculated political reasons on the part of the Bush Administration.

A good reason Bush does not want to secure the border with Mexico may be that the administration is trying to create express lanes for Mexican trucks to bring containers with cheap Far East goods into the heart of the U.S., all without the involvement of any U.S. union workers on the docks or in the trucks.

Re: [CCCC-USA] Bush sneaking North American super-state without over

Tue Jun 13, 2006 2:19 pm (PST) I found this message
in my "bulk mail folder",
treated as spam,
but it is actually political censorship.
I am trimming out the censored message but you can read it in the archives of this group.
The message may have been trimmed out to avoid the key word censorship.

Censorship tactics on THE INTERNET
When you are a member of an egroup,
you can watch the censorship happen before your very own eyes.
You send a message to the group, and you get your own message back,
because you are one of the members of the group.
I sent a message to the group, and did NOT get that message back.
I checked to see if it was a moderated group,
and the message HAD not yet been approved.
Sometimes I sent a test message, and the test message was delivered.
Then I found that the censored message had been marked as "spam",
and put into the "spam" folder.
Interestingly enough, every message which
triggered this "glitch" once ; almost always triggered this "glitch" every time that it is sent. Even a REPLY to such a message will trigger the CAPCHA censorship window UNLESS the censored message is trimmed out.
ALMOST ALL of these messages were critical of something that the Department of Homeland Security had done.
Now what about the strange problems in just getting the message OUT?
FIRST I sent a message ANNOUNCING that the censored message was
about to be sent, within five minutes.
THEN I sent the censored message.
I got LOTS of emails back from people;
who got the announcement,
but did NOT get the censored message.

Below you will see a few of the problems,
that I encountered trying to sent the censored message
NONE of the things, that you see below, EVER happened,
while sending the ANNOUNCEMENT.
Just a few of the censorship tactics that I saw
