Congress Kills Ban On Permanent US Military Bases In Iraq...

By The Huffington Post on George W. Bush

Congressional Republicans killed a provision in an Iraq war funding bill that would have put the United States on record against the permanent basing of U.S. military facilities in that country, a lawmaker and congressional aides said on Friday.

The $94.5 billion emergency spending bill, which includes $65.8 billion to continue waging wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is expected to be approved by Congress next week and sent to
President George W. Bush for signing into law.

The War They Wanted, The Lies They Needed
The Bush administration invaded Iraq claiming Saddam Hussein had tried
to buy yellowcake uranium in Niger. As much of Washington knew, and the
world soon learned, the charge was false. Worse, it appears to have
been the cornerstone of a highly successful "black propaganda" campaign

Pentagon Jettisons US Agent Provocateur Al-Zarqawi

Pentagon Jettisons US Agent Provocateur Al-Zarqawi
Musab dies for the umpteenth time but this time its for real says the
US government!

Paul Joseph Watson/Prison June 8 2006

For those of us attempting to keep track of how many times US agent
provocateur Musab Al-Zarqawi has been killed or captured today's news
comes as something of a relief - the US government has stamped its
official seal of approval on the fact that the Pentagon's most
influential PR tool is no more.

Irrefutable evidence confirms that Musab Al-Zarqawi was a US agent
provocateur used to both sell the necessity of the war in Iraq and as
a patsy to take the fall for numerous suspicious bombings which only
had the effect of realizing a long-held US and Israeli goal to
deliberately foment civil war in Iraq and break up the country along
sectarian lines.

Preceding the release of the recent Al-Zarqawi video tape, the
Pentagon embarked on a propaganda push to magnify the role and
influence of Al-Zarqawi in Iraq - reinforcing the 'Al-Qaeda in Iraq'
brand myth and pinning the increasingly unpopular occupation to the
wider 'war on terror'.

Leaked documents splashed in the New York Times were proof that the
Pentagon has even gone to the lengths of faking letters taking credit
for insurgent bombings, attributing them to Al-Zarqawi and leaking
them to journalists.

Transcripts of meetings between the Joint Chiefs of Staff discussed
turning Al-Zarqawi into a caricature and making him appear, "more
important than he really is."

The same documents directly stated that the false promotion of
Al-Zarqawi included marking the the "U.S. Home Audience" as one of the
targets of a broader propaganda campaign."

This alone is bullet proof evidence that the Al-Zarqawi image, whether
the real Al-Zarqawi was alive, dead or rotting away at Guantanamo Bay,
was carefully controlled and massaged by the US military-industrial
complex all along. His shining achievement in terms of aiding his
Neo-Con bosses was to launch a wave of copy-cat beheadings after
appearing in the production of the fictional Nick Berg beheading tape.

The amount of times that Al-Zarqawi has been reported as killed or
captured is beyond a joke but the Pentagon refused to verify any of
these instances choosing instead to keep their pawn in place for the
time being.

The US home audience remains the target as it seems the laughable
credibility of the 'fearsome' Al-Zarqawi, his own 'home video'
revealed he couldn't even operate a gun, has caused the Pentagon to
jettison their creation and throw a few much needed approval points
Bush's way.

No doubt the feverish Neo-Con cheerleaders will pick the flesh off
this for the next 6 months at least, highlighting it as a benchmark of
the success of the war on Iraq, despite the fact that death rates are
at an all time high. The bombings will continue unabated because
phantom menace Al-Zarqawi was as much a ringleader for the insurgents
as the tooth fairy was responsible for the fall of the Berlin wall.

The end of Al-Zarqawi should be a concern for all westerners because
it can be added to the pile of evidence to suggest the men behind the
curtain are creating a storyboard on which to later pin a staged
terror attack blamed on Al-Qaeda and carried out supposedly in revenge
for the elimination of Al-Zarqawi.

This development also increases that likelihood that the (also
deceased) CIA pawn Osama bin Laden will be rolled out before the
mid-term elections as the ever prevalent October surprise.

FBI says, "No hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11"

FBI says, "No hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11"

June 6, 2006 - This past weekend, a thought provoking e-mail circulated through Internet news groups, bringing attention to the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist web page for Usama Bin Laden.[1] (See bottom of this web page for Most Wanted page) In the e-mail, the question is asked, "Why doesn't Usama Bin Laden's Most Wanted poster make any direct connection with the events of September 11, 2001?" The FBI says on its Bin Laden web page that Usama Bin Laden is wanted in connection with the August 7, 1998 bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya. According to the FBI, these attacks killed over 200 people. The FBI concludes its reason for "wanting" Bin Laden by saying, "In addition, Bin Laden is a suspect in other terrorists attacks throughout the world."

On June 5, 2006, the Muckraker Report contacted the FBI Headquarters, (202) 324-3000, to learn why Bin Laden's Most Wanted poster did not indicate that Usama was also wanted in connection with 9/11. The Muckraker Report spoke with Rex Tomb, Chief of Investigative Publicity for the FBI. When asked why there is no mention of 9/11 on Bin Laden's Most Wanted web page, Tomb said, "The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Usama Bin Laden's Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11."

What there never was, was a war on terror -- just Bush, grovelling on
his knees and doing whatever bin Laden told him to do.

I just got my copy of Palast's book, so I'm only on page 68. But
wouldn't it be interesting if it turned out that OSAMA was the one who
ordered Bush to invade Iraq, and OSAMA gave Bush the order to destroy
the WTC as an excuse? According to Palast, Bush is the first President
in U.S. history to remove a U.S. military base from a foreign country.
When bin Laden declared war on the U.S., he did it to get U.S. troops
out of Saudi Arabia. They're out. He won.

Update from Art Bell Now in The Philippines

Hi all!
Hello from Manila, Philippines! I would like to give you all an update.
I arrived here with a big case of the Flu which is just now starting to
fade. Three trips from one side of the world to the other will do that.
We are very happy and living in a very nice condo here in Manila. The
condo was empty and we slept on the floor for the first three days. We
are now all but done with the furniture and so forth, wow what a job.
During this period I have also been trying to deal with Customs here
with regard to the gear the company sent. Being a large and (honest)
company they declared the stuff Broadcast gear, bad mistake because it
triggers a lot of official paperwork with the Gov't. The gear of course
is really just audio and telephone.
The second thing they did was include original new price invoices for
everything, Customs really loved that! So, with enough Peso's that
problem is just about in hand. The next issue is the I.S.D.N. line which
is to be installed by P.L.D.T -- the telephone co. here. I will know
shortly when that will happen.
Nothing here happens as fast as I would like, however this Broadcaster
is very much ready to get back on the air A.S.A.P.
For those of you who may think I made a mistake in this move, you are
wrong; it is a wonderful change that I will never be sorry for. The
people here are friendly in a way that you would have to travel back in
time in the U.S. to match, perhaps to the 1950s or so. The cost of
living is about 25% of what it is in the U.S. Everybody speaks English
as a second language and EVERYTHING is written in English.
As for TV and radio, well I have CNN, HBO, Cinemax, and many other U.S.
TV outlets here on our local cable which also provides a high speed
Internet connection. I have three computers on an 802.11G wireless
See a picture taken from my office window:
Airyn is well indeed and we are very happy. We took a short plane ride
to her home in Cagayan De Oro City last week. We also went to visit
Corrigedor where Gen. Mc Arthur made his famous "I shall return"
statement. I saw all the barracks and big guns still on the Island. Of
course it was also the location of the Death March. Trust me, you could
feel all the Ghosts.
It is now the rainy season here, it started a bit early. There are only
two seasons here....Summer and the Rainy season this close to the
After Ramona passed I was in a tailspin which would have resulted in my
own demise had this Angel not come along. I was not eating and despite
my on-air sound, believe me I was in a very deep depression. So, in
retrospect, I have done the right thing. I am about to quit smoking,
this may cause my demise, or it may add a few years, I will hope for the
latter! Wish me luck, I will need it. As it is, I only now smoke in the
comfort room with a fan on. (That is what they call a bathroom here).
I am a resident of the Philippines now having joined the PRA, check
Google for details. That means I can come and go as I like without all
that Visa stuff. It also has many other benefits. This should be the
number one spot for American Retirement but Americans read the State
Dept. warnings about the southern Islands and conclude it is for the
whole country, that is totally wrong.
Sorry for the long ramble but I have still not told all there is to tell
about this wonderful place. Please feel free to email me at
As for getting back on air I am very much wanting it to happen fast but
I think it will still be a bit. I have most of my Ham gear here but have
not yet tried to get an antenna up-- I am only one floor from the roof
so I have high hopes that I will be able to get a antenna up there.
(200ft) I am on Echolink (using VR2HF) for you Hams.
That is about it for the moment but now that I have my password again I
will continue to update you on progress. I would be happy to answer any
questions any of you may have. Please feel free to cross post this at
other locations. I am indeed keeping the house in Pahrump, however my RV
and all cars are for sale, please contact Paul at: for
more info. The vehicles are all cherry. More soon.
Thank you all,
Art Bell

Congress to hold hearings into OKC bombing

In us congress

In what some on Capitol Hill are calling a surprising decision, U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde has given the nod for hearings into the long-debated question of whether those responsible for the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building had help from any foreign source.

Spurred to action by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., Hyde has given Rohrabacher’s Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House International Relations Committee the wide-ranging authority to conduct interviews and subpoena documents related to the April 19, 1995, terrorist attack that left 168 dead, 19 of them children.
Interviewed Wednesday, Rohrabacher confirmed that his nearly two-year-long personal investigation into the Oklahoma City tragedy had finally received the necessary support for an official congressional investigation.

“Congressman Hyde has approved my request for hearings into the OKC bombing. The congressional investigation will be limited to our area of focus, which is whether there was a foreign connection to the conspiracy,” Rohrabacher explained.

“I think we know what we’re looking for and I expect complete cooperation from the witnesses we call and the agencies we look to for documents.”

Rohrabacher then emphasized that his office would be keeping the public informed as to the level of cooperation his subcommittee receives during the official phase of this investigation.

“I must be able to assure the families of the victims of this horrible crime that their government cooperated with our investigation. That is very important to our oversight responsibilities,” the congressman said.

My Iraqi colleague and friend Aishya is on the phone detailing names, ages and method of death for each of the victims of Haditha’s massacre by US troops last November. She tells me that from her interviews with survivors, there are certain details being incorrectly reported and she wants to correct them. She double-checked, she says, on a recent trip when she was bringing medical supplies to Haditha. As I scribble down the information, she pauses. "You know,"! she says, "this happens every day, of course. And what about the wedding party in Mukaradeeb the US murdered in 2004?" At least 45 people were killed by US troops in the attack near Al-Qaim in western Iraq. Pentagon officials denied a wedding was in procession, claiming instead that party-goers were "anti-coalition forces." "We need to get this information out," Aishya continues, "but let me tell you something that happened just the other day...

George Bush is right; Iraq is "the central battlefield in the global war on terror". Regrettably, it is United States that is the main sponsor and supporter of that terror in the form of American-trained death squads. Death squad activity in Iraq now accounts for more than 1,000 casualties per month. The Baghdad morgue has become a conveyor-belt for American-generated carnage. Up to now, the US involvement in the killing has been effectively concealed by the mainstream media. Apart from inf! requent reports on the internet, there is little information connecting the burgeoning death toll to America’s counterinsurgency operations. That changed on May 4, 2006 when Congressman Dennis Kucinich gave a speech on the floor of the House which linked the Bush administration to the death squad’s in Iraq. Reading from a long list of newspaper articles he had compiled, Kucinich provided a detailed account of America’s disturbing undercover war. Naturally, his speech was shunned by the major media and consigned to the memory hole...

There can be no doubt that the 'death’ of 'Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’ is part of a carefully planned disinformation campaign designed to divert attention away from the slaughter of Haditha (and elsewhere), a campaign that the corporate and state media have gleefully participated in. Indeed, 'al-Zarqawi' is itself a psy-ops programme in its own right, replete with faked letters of authenticity, fed to the press by the US military, which calls into question the source! of the Internet videos of beheadings, and who is behind the wave of kidnappings and murders currently sweeping Iraq...

So 'Zarqawi' is finally dead. It was an interesting piece of news that greeted us yesterday morning (or was it the day before? I've lost track of time…). I didn't bother with the pictures and film they showed of him because I, personally, have been saturated with images of broken, bleeding bodies. The reactions have been different. There's a general consensus amongst family and friends that he won't be missed, whoever he is. There is also doubt- who was he really? Did he even! exist? Was he truly the huge terror the Americans made him out to be? When did he actually die? People swear he was dead back in 2003… The timing is extremely suspicious: just when people were getting really fed up with the useless Iraqi government, Zarqawi is killed and Maliki is hailed the victorious leader of the occupied world! (And no- Iraqis aren't celebrating in the streets- worries over electricity, water, death squads, tests, corpses and extremists in high places prevail right now.)...

Propaganda and Haditha
Dahr Jamail and Jeff Pflueger , t r u t h o u t
Propaganda is when the Western corporate media tries to influence public opinion in favor of the Iraq War by consistently tampering with truth and distorting reality. It is to be expected. And it is to be recognized for what it is. On occasions when the media does its job responsibly and reports events like the November 19, 2005, Haditha Massacre, it must also be willing and able to anticipate and counter propaganda campaigns that will inevi! tably follow. It is to be expected that the responsible members of the media fraternity will stick to their guns and not join the propagandists. This piece is a summary of five most commonly deployed crisis management propaganda tactics which the State and Media combine that we can expect to see in relation to the Haditha Massacre. Listed in a loose chronological order of their deployment, the tactics are: Delay, Distract, Discredit, Spotlight and Scapegoat. Each of the five public relations campaigns will here be discussed in the context of the Haditha Massacre...

Army Medical Command spokesman Jaime Cavazos said Wednesday that the results of the tests represent "information the enemy could use to potentially make soldiers more vulnerable to harm." He declined to elaborate.
Pentagon scientists and other health officials have already made public similar data from other installations.

Painful legacy
Firas Al-Atraqchi
While world media discusses the Haditha and Ishaqi atrocities "and the guilt or innocence therein of the United States military", it should be stressed that the beginning of the Iraqi resistance movements in Iraq can be traced back to several similar incidents during and after the March 2003 invasion. Since the days of the beginning of hostilities in Iraq, Iraqis have complained that US troops were ruthless and trigger- happy, often responding to incidents of violence with disprop! ortionate force and caring little for Iraqi casualties (...) The first signs that Iraqis were in for a bloody and inhumane occupation were felt in the precision bombing of Baghdad and other cities. Arab media clamoured viciously to broadcast the freshest images of civilian dead which were coming in to news bureaus every hour. By now, there are several images which have become ingrained into the collective psyche of this war. But there are other stories, many of them without accompanying footage, which have long been forgotten by many...

Breakthroughs in Iraq, While Backing Off on Iran
Gary Leupp,
This morning I wake up to learn, as I peruse, that the Bush administration has suddenly agreed to acknowledge Iran’s right to enrich uranium. Then almost immediately thereafter, from the TV, that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed. Then from the car radio I learn for the first time, and from the mouth of President Bush in his statement announcing Zarqawi’s death, that Iraqi President Nouri al-Maliki has finally appo! inted defense and interior ministers to his cabinet. The failure of the client-state to do this for five months following the parliamentary elections in January (and thereby actually pose as a state in the real world where state power grows out of the barrel of a gun) had become an acute embarrassment for those attempting to lend it legitimacy...

Comments on Greg Palast's New Book Armed Madhouse
Stephen Lendman
I've known about and followed Greg Palast's important work for some time. I read his eye-opening book The Best Democracy Money Can Buy a few years ago and have mentioned it several times in some of my other writing. Greg is one of the most important and exhaustively thorough investigative journalists anywhere, which is especially important at a time when that kind of effort is needed more than ever. I knew he had a new book in the works, and I l! ooked forward to getting and reading it knowing it would be full of important and explosive material we all should know about. I wasn't disappointed nor did I expect to be. Living in the US under a rogue administration bent on world conquest and dominance, I can easily understand what Greg might have had in mind by his title.

Zarqawi's real name: Lieutenant Kije
Joseph Cannon, Cannonfire
...Supposedly, American soldiers found it during a raid. Which raid? Why not humor us with a few details? On second thought, don't bother. Any details provided by officaldom would never convince, since so many recent events have justified cynicism. The Casey slideshow confirmed what many had already suspected: Zarqawi existed solely because he fulfilled a propaganda function. Once that fact became known, it was necessary to bury the revelation. First ! came the video. When that ploy failed, Zarqawi lost his value as bogeyman and thus had to die...

Why Operation Jump Start Worries Me
Greg Moses
The Guard operation at the border has an air of legal peculiarity about it. Obviously it has been initiated by federal powers, but care has been taken to leave troops under command of the Governors, sort of. If the legal finesse of Operation Jump Start offers a vulnerability de-militarization activists can exploit, it also presents features worth worrying about. Let’s not forget that the memo was released at the very end of the work week during the first week of the ! summer season. In Texas, it was distributed by the Governor’s office after five. And there has yet to be any public discussion of its wisdom. Doesn’t this sound too familiar?...

Enough about Ann Coulter: Answer the Jersey Girls questions about 9/11!
Ben Frank
Is anyone else outraged at all the attention that Ann Coulter is getting for attacking the Jersey Girls? How is it possible that everyone is talking about what Ann Coulter wrote, and no one is talking about what the Jersey Girls have to say? John Kerry wrote for Huffington post about how horrible it is that Ann is attacking them with the provocative headline "Shameless, but the Real Shame Is If We Don’t Act" No folks, he is not talk! ing about acting on the very important issue of demanding answers to what the hell happened on to our air defenses on 9/11…he wants us to act by calling the media and telling them we don’t like Ann Coulter. Instead of jumping in to defend them from this insignificant hateful warmonger, I bet the Jersey Girls would rather have people pay attention to what actually happened on 9/11 and start answering their questions!...

Everybody Knows: Storms of Horror in a Tormented Land
Chris Floyd
...Even in the most justified conflicts, war spawns monstrosities, drawing out the beast that lurks in the muddy sediment of our brains. How much greater, then, is the guilt of those who knowingly instigate unjustified wars? How much greater is the guilt of elitist cowards who send troops — deceived, undersupplied, undertrained, overworked — into the death-dealing chaos of urban warfare, in a land whose people can see they are not being liberated b! ut plundered, murdered, tortured, terrorized and driven back into a primitive –indeed a feral – state of existence?...
