Is Israel Allowing Hezbollah to Kill Its Citizens?

By Administrator on Uncategorized

For the honest historian, it comes as no surprise government either kills its own citizens or allows enemies to do the same in an effort to score propaganda points or as an excuse to commence hostilities.

Examples are numerous, from FDR denying Americans passport and travel documents to let them flee the Japanese onslaught of the Philippines in the lead up to the Second World War (see US prisoners claim Roosevelt left them in Philippines deliberately) to Operation Northwoods, a plan drawn up by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to stage fake terror attacks in America (including assassination, airplane hijacking, and sinking of boats) in order to devise a pretext to invade Cuba.

Indeed, some of us, routinely dismissed as tinfoil hatters, believe elements within the United States government engineered and executed the terrorist events of September 11, 2001, as a way to get the ball rolling on the “war against terrorism,” that is to say the war against Islam, currently heating up big time in the Middle East.

Considering the above, and other examples, including the sinking of the Lusitania, a passenger ship loaded up with a secret cargo of munitions (a fact admitted by the decidedly less than conspiratorial Encyclopedia Britannica), which contributed indirectly to the entry of the United States into World War I, and the suspicious sinking of the Maine in the Havana harbor, used as a pretext for the United States to declare war on Spain in 1898, the allegation “Israel has deliberately allowed Hezbollah to retain some of it’s fire power, essentially for PR purposes, because having Israeli civilians killed helps them in the public relations war” should not be a startling or especially mind-boggling revelation.

According to Tom Ricks, a reporter for the Washington Post, during an appearance on CNN’s Reliable Sources, citing “military analysts,” Israel “purposely has left pockets of Hezbollah rockets in Lebanon, because as long as they’re being rocketed, they can continue to have a sort of moral equivalency in their operations in Lebanon.”

Or, put differently, if Hezbollah continues to rocket northern Israel, the IOF may claim “moral equivalency” and continue its push into Lebanon, once again to the Litani River, a plentiful source of fresh water that long ago figured into Israel’s calculations of its endangered water resources (see Angela Joy Moss, ICE Case Studies, Litani River and Israel-Lebanon), in fact a resource long coveted by the Zionists, going as far back as Chaim Weizmann in 1919 and, a few decades later, Ben-Gurion and Moshe Dayan, who advocated Israeli occupation of Lebanon up to the Litani River (see Stephen C. Lonergan and David B. Brooks, Watershed: the Role of Fresh Water in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict).

Ronald Bleier wrote for the Middle East Labor Bulletin, Spring 1994:

Zionist interest in the waters of Lebanon goes back as least as far as the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 when Chaim Wietzman wrote to the British Prime Minister explaining that because of its water requirements, a Jewish homeland in Palestine must include the Litani River.

In the 50’s, Israeli Prime Minister Moshe Sharett recorded in his diaries that Moshe Dayan’s plan for the control of the Litani River was to “‘enter Lebanon, occupy the relevant territory’ then the ‘territory south of the Litani will be annexed to Israel and everything will fall into place.’” (Quoted in Amery, pp. 18-19)

In addition to establishing a “security zone,” or maybe we should call it a “fresh water for Israel” zone, allowing Hezbollah to fire rockets more or less unhampered into Israel, and thus killing a token number of Israelis, addresses the “moral high ground problem,” that is to say it neutralizes, at least for supporters of Israel, the troublesome fact the IOF has killed around a thousand Lebanese to date (no doubt this number is much higher), the vast majority civilians, a third to half children. In addition, it allows them to reduce Lebanon to ruins and impoverish its people, part of a well-documented Zionist goal in its own right (see Oded Yinon).

If indeed Tom Ricks is correct—and the fact he works for the Washington Post should, at minimum, send up a red flag, as the Post was long ago co-opted by the CIA under Operation Mockingbird—it represents another example of government shamelessly using mostly gullible and unassuming citizens as little more than expendable pawns, as Hitler, Stalin, FDR, Mao, and any number of other cold-blooded leaders have done since time immemorial.

Must see TV: George Galloway

By Eli

George Galloway discusses Hizbollah on Sky News. YouTube version here or on Sky News itself here. Be forewarned though, if you're an American. This is just going to make you regret the fact that you only get to watch American television (and American politicians).

Bonus video: a British interviewer talks to a deputy Israeli Ambassador, and tries to get him to answer tough questions, like why did they bomb the power plant in Gaza? Particularly ironic is his insistent repeating that Israel had only killed a single Palestinian in Gaza...that week. The upated count is now well over a hundred.

John McCain on the 9-11 Deniers

By Pat

It's only a paragraph, but it's a good one:

SEN. John McCain is gunning for 9/11 conspiracy theorists. The 2008 presidential hopeful has penned a scathing forward to "Debunking 9/11 Myths," a new book from Popular Mechanics that uses science to blow away such far-fetched theories as that American air defenses were ordered to "stand down" on Sept. 11 and that the south tower was struck by a military aircraft. McCain calls the tales "ugly, unfounded accusations of extraordinary evil against fellow Americans" that insult the cops and firefighters who responded to the tragedies that day.

And the passengers on the planes, the pilots, and their families.

DU cracks the case: Adnan Hajj is an IDF (or Mossad?) plant

By Allahpundit on The Blog

Reached for comment, Washington Post reporter Thomas Ricks pronounced the theory “crazy — like a fox.”

As “junkdrawer” puts it:

Same trajectory as Rathergate…

Clumsy “forgery” discovered on LGF, makes the usual RW rounds and ends up clouding the issue in the Corporate Media.

Who’d a thunk it?

Who indeed? Got anything to say for yourself, Mr. CNN?

These people are 24 hours away from winning a primary in Connecticut.

Update: Lieberman’s campaign site has been hacked for the second time this month. Hotline’s dopey theory:

One theory we’ll throw out: the site has been hacked to make it appear as if the Lieberman campaign, running against the Netroots’ candidate, forgot to pay its website bill. On the eve of the election.

Crazy — like a fox.

More Propaganda: Hezbollah Trained in Iran

By Administrator on Uncategorized

No doubt this one will get wide play in the corporate media. “A Hizbollah fighter captured by Israel has told interrogators he received training in Iran and arrived there on a flight from Syria, a tape of the interrogation released by the Israeli army showed on Monday…. During questioning the man also confessed to taking part in the cross-border raid on July 12 in which two Israeli soldiers were captured, the incident which sparked the current conflict,” reports, or rather stenographs, Reuters.

Such a nice little package, all tied up with ribbon. Now we have “evidence”—by way of electrodes attached to testicles, no doubt—that Iran trains Hezbollah and Syria delivers these terrorists to carry out their dastardly deeds, for instance defending their country from hundreds of Israeli border incursions since they were kicked out in 2000. Of course, the Lebanese are not supposed to resist occupation and the brutality of the Israelis and simply throw their bodies under the blades of massive bulldozers (made in the USA) and the treads of Merkava tanks.

Note how Reuters simply repeats the lie that Hezbollah violated the border and “kidnapped” innocent Israeli soldiers. As previously noted here and elsewhere—although predictably and roundly ignored in the corporate media—the Israeli soldiers were captured as they infiltrated the Lebanese town of Aitaa al-Chaab, part of a larger pattern of not only illegal border crossings but also the shelling of villages, numerous air raids, attacks on Lebanese military positions, slaughtering civilians, and setting up installations on Lebanese soil, violations officially (if not uselessly) reported in letters from the Chargé d’affaires of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council. Naturally, none of this is mentioned by the corporate media as it continues a nauseating barrage of pro-Israel propaganda coupled with an endless of diet of hit pieces designed to demonize Hezbollah.

In order to understand the magnitude of the above mentioned brazen (and studiously ignored) crimes against Lebanese sovereignty, simply visit the United Nations Bibliographic Information System database. The following links point to PDF documents of the letters filed with the United Nations: January 4, 2006, February 3, 2006, February 6, 2006, March 3, 2006, April 4, 2006, May 4, 2006, May 30, 2006, and June 5, 2006. In the six month period documented by the letters, Israel violated Lebanese sovereignty 529 times.

Israel, Oil and the "planned demolition" of Lebanon
MIKE WHITNEY
By bombing the highways and main bridges into Beirut, Israel has cut off the capital from the outside world and put the entire nation under siege. Israel can now execute its plan to pummel Lebanon into rubble without the threat of foreign intervention. The north has been effectively severed from the south allowing the IDF to continue its ethnic cleansing operations as well as its search-and-destroy missions for Hezbollah fighters. They have meticul! ously destroyed all the main points of entry at the Syrian border and blockaded the coastline. Israel believes that their earlier occupation (which ended in year 2000) failed due to the unrestricted flow of supplies and weaponry from Syria and Iran. The Bush administration has assisted this effort by providing crucial intelligence from the NSA about the movement of material from the outside. By now, it should be apparent that Israel’s military campaign has nothing to do with Hezbollah’s capturing of the 2 Israeli soldiers on July 14. The present plan, which was drawn up more than a year ago (and which high-ranking members of the Bush administration were fully briefed) is designed to establish a new northern border for Israel at the Litani River and create an "Israel-friendly" regime in Beirut. The plan to annex the land south of the Litani River dates back to the founding of the Jewish state when Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben Gurion described the country’s futu! re borders this way: "To the north the Litani River, the south! ern bord er will be pushed into the Sinai, and to the east, the Syrian Desert, including the furthest edge of Transjordan...

The anti-Zionist boycott
Xymphora
We can and should get our placards and march around in a circle, but until the American government/Zionist/Israel nexus is broken, the Israeli generals will just laugh at us. This is why it is so critically important to fight the closet Zionist idea that what Israel does is at the instance of the American establishment, or is merely part of a covert war over oil, a classic example of getting the cart and the horse mixed up. The only way to put an end to Israeli colonialism, and! to prevent World War Three, is to hurt the supporters of Zionism financially. The fact that this is the only way to stop Zionism is proof of the real power relations between the parties. The Noams of the world can issue all the letters they want claiming how upset they are over Lebanon, and it won’t make a tinker’s damn of difference. A boycott of Zionists will work...

The Great Deception
The propaganda that we pay for

Dr. Abbas Bakhtiar
"What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it ev! en on the slightest evidence". (Bertrand Russell) So it is with Messrs. Bush and Blair which have acted time and again on the flimsiest of evidence to reshape Middle East into what they desire it to be: a neo-colonial possession to supply oil while at the same time helping their rich to get richer. You may disagree with this statement, especially, if you have been listening to so much propaganda about spreading democracy in the Muslim world in general and Middle East in particular. So I ask you to look at the following arguments and then decide if the actions taken so far point to fighting terrorism, spreading democracy or hegemony...

STOP THE WAR COALITION RESPONSE TO DRAFT UN RESOLUTION ON LEBANON
STOP THE WAR COALITION
The draft United Nations resolution being proposed in New York cannot
lay the basis for a just peace in Lebanon. It seeks to establish an occupying force in Lebanon. It does not call for an immediate ceasefire from Israel. By legitimising the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon it lays the basis for the further continuation and expansion of that war. This resolution has been rejected by the Lebanese government. From the very beginning of the Israeli attacks both the Lebanese government and Hizbollah have called for an immediate ceasefire. The war in Lebanon is part of the wider 'war on terror’ being prosecuted by Britain and the US in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Ever-Expanding War
Birth Pangs and Dead Babies

SHARON SMITH
On August 6, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and President George W. Bush pieced together (with France's blessing) a toothless UN Security Council resolution on Lebanon. The resolution does not even call for Israel's withdrawal from its neighboring Arab sovereign state. In so doing, the U.S. gave its imperial partner, Israel, a green light to continue its carnage. U.S. fingerprints were already all over Israel's war on Lebanon, graphic! ally illustrated by the July 30th massacre of more than 60 civilians at Qana. Israel bombed Qana with U.S.-made F-16 fighter planes, while a bomb fragment found at the Qana bombing site read, "For use on MK-84, Guided Bomb BSU-37/B"-produced by the Boeing corporation to convert MK-84s into precision bombs. Like the bombs, this war is "made in the USA." Lebanon is just the latest of the U.S.' many fronts in its "war on terror," now approaching its fifth anniversary. Yet, despite its ferocity, this war is proving to be an abysmal failure for U.S. imperialism-in Afghanistan and Iraq, and also in its proxy wars in Palestine and Lebanon...

The Hypocrisy of Corporate Wars
Siv O'Neall, Axis of Logic
The huge difference between yesterday’s cruel wars of conquest and today’s cataclysmic wars is not only the high-tech approach to the devastation wrought in the present wars. Above all, they are not primarily wars of conquest, they are corporate wars of domination of geopolitically dominant areas, such as in the present war for profit which is dishonestly presented to the world as a total and ever-lasting war on terror, the intended total domination of th! e strategically essential Middle East region. But what we must not fail to see is the senseless greed involved in the present-day wars, not just as far as oil is concerned and the domination of oil producing regions, but the obscene profits made by arms manufacturers and by the oil industry. Is the carefully built construct of a big lie intended to convince the American people and the world of the necessity of this totally uncalled-for war? And after all the hype and spin, is the very idea of a war on terror now starting to fall apart? The credibility of U.S. and Israeli warmongers is shredding in front of our eyes, facing the heightened insurgency the war has brought about in the Arab countries and the lack of support in the world at large. Also facing the outrageous cost of this war for profit of the very few and the dear consequences for the people at home...

Hezbollah Rides a New Popularity
Dahr Jamail, Inter Press Service
As the war in Lebanon approaches the one-month mark, and amid the destruction of much of Lebanon, Hezbollah appears to be gaining strength within the country and around the Arab world. The Israeli aim of widespread bombing of the Lebanese infrastructure in order to create resentment against Hezbollah seems to have played into the strengths of Hezbollah. Hezbollah, known in many western countries as a "terrorist organisation", is widely seen in Leba! non as a legitimate political and social power. One reason for this, according to an official representative of Hezbollah and member of the Lebanese Parliament, is that Hezbollah has never aimed to turn Lebanon into an Islamic state. "Hezbollah is a democratic party whose principles are based on the Lebanese constitution," Tarad Hamade told IPS. "This means we have to respect the cultural and religious diversity in the country. We have never intended to establish an Islamic state"...

UN resolution on Lebanon: blueprint for intensified war and colonial occupation
Bill Van Auken, WSWS
The US-French resolution that is to be voted on by the United Nations Security Council early this week represents an imperialist diktat to the people of Lebanon and an attempt by Washington to legitimize and consummate the geo-strategic goals pursued in the last month of US-Israeli war of aggression. It is deliberately written in such a provocative manner as to ensure its rejection not only by Hezbollah, but by th! e Lebanese government itself. Not a single Lebanese grievance is addressed. What it demands, essentially, is that Hezbollah enter a suicide pact with its enemies and that Lebanon accepts its transformation into a semi-colony....

An "unparalleled, hellish plot".
Lenin's Tomb
I can only marvel at those who seriously pretend that this aggression by Israel has to do with an existential threat to that country, as one contemptible Israeli 'peacenik' did in The Observer yesterday (the article was entitled 'Voices from Across the Divide', and the voices unmistakeably said 'Death to the Arabs'). For this unctuous berk, it's World War III - and, of course, the Arabs are cast as the Axis, and it's all very very tough for Israel, so tough that "Our ! job now is to survive". Interestingly, what he describes as the Israeli far right position, that this war happened because Israel pulled out of Lebanon (even though it did not), is the publicly avowed position of the Chief Rabbi in Britain. Amos Oz is harped on the same theme of Israel's right-to-butcher-Arabs a couple of weeks ago...

Israel's leaders: Second-generation terrorists
Eli Stephens, Left I on the News
Ariel Sharon is well-known for the massacre of thousands of Palestinians in the Lebanese refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila. Even an Israeli commission found him "indirectly responsible." Before him as Israeli Prime Minister, there was Menachem Begin, the former head of the Jewish terrorist group Irgun, whose murder of 92 people with the bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem in 1946 was one of the seminal events leading to the ! establishment of the state of Israel (a bombing which was recently commemorated (!) with a new plaque in a ceremony attended by yet another former Israeli Prime Minister, Benamin Netanyahu).
