Israel must Renounce Violence
Ghali Hassan, Axis of Logic
Israel’s-state violence has the advantage to be condone by Western (US and EU) governments and ignored or distorted by all mainstream media. Yet, Palestinian self-defence and miniscule retaliations, including resistance to Israel’s illegal occupation is magnified and condemned as "terrorism". To show who has the uncontested monopoly on violence, a comparison of the situation on the ground is necessary. According to the International Middle East Media Centr! e (IMEMC), the month of April has been the bloodiest month since August 2005. The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) murdered 36 Palestinian civilians, including three children in the West Bank and Gaza; more than 300 Palestinian civilians were arrested. Since last January, the IOF killed more than 50 Palestinians, including several children in cold blood and wounded many. Indeed, "over 22 times more Palestinian children were killed [by Israelis soldiers] than Israeli children [killed by Palestinians]"...

Iran, Bush & Nuremberg
Peter Dyer, Consortiumnews.com
There is an old and cynical maxim: "The more people one kills, the less likely one is to be punished." One of the most pernicious consequences of the invasion of Iraq is that in the United States it is now apparently accepted virtually without challenge that aggressive war is a legitimate tool of American foreign policy. I have seen nothing in the mainstream American media discussion of the pros and cons of a "preemptive" assault on Iran by the United States w! hich deals with the possibility that this may be illegal or even morally wrong. So far this is simply not part of the debate. We Americans are afflicted with historical, legal and moral amnesia. It used to be that most of us thought it was wrong to invade a country which had neither harmed us nor was imminently ready to harm us. There is a solid legal and moral foundation for this belief...

Redefining the Middle East
Ramzy Baroud
It may be convenient to perceive the Middle East as a politically charged, fractious region, rife with conflicts and disputes, void of many prospects, save those leading to even further uncertainty and turmoil. While history is indeed rich with instances that would effortlessly validate such a notion, only disinterested minds would fail to appreciate the immense role played by great European and now American powers in painting such a grim portrait of a region that once serv! ed as the cradle of great civilizations. The seemingly innocent classification of the Middle East as this cohesive, yet inherently violent entity is consistent with utterly militaristic and chauvinistic views constructed by numerous Western scholars, diplomats and military men, whose attempt to reduce a vast, diverse and intricate region has been compelled primarily by their countries’ imperialist drive and hunger for territorial and political control...

Now America reacts
Iraq didn't get us riled up -- but domestic spying did

Geov Parrish
...On October 29, 2004, the British medical journal Lancet published a peer-reviewed article that made a compelling case that to date the U.S. invasion of Iraq had caused some 100,000 deaths over and above the civilian mortality that Iraq would have experienced in peacetime. Given that more time has passed since then than between the original U.S. invasion and the writing of the study, and that the insurgency has onl! y intensified in that time, and that civil war has begun on top of it, and given the additional cumulative effects of war on public health and mortality, that number undoubtedly now exceeds 200,000 Iraqi deaths. The number continues to climb daily. You can find the details each day, a few of them, in small type, on page A27, under "World: In Other News." And now, America erupts because… the Bush administration has been secretly trying to build a database of every single phone call in the country, and it probably already includes your calls...

Solidarity Street Demonstrations To Demand US Keep Hands Off Venezuela and Cuba
Stephen Lendman

Maybe it's just a coincidence that just days before an international expression of solidarity demanding the US keep its hands off Venezuela and Cuba, Rep. Dan Burton (a right wing Republican in good standing) introduced an anti-Venezuelan resolution in the US House of Representatives. His resolution on May 11 was just another step along the way in the Bush administration's fourth attempt to oust President Hugo Chavez as the democratically elected leader of the Venezuelan people. The resolution shows at least two things: that the US government's stated commitment to democracy is farcical and empty on its face and that any resemblance in it between the truth about the Chavez government's achievements in combatting drug trafficking and money laundering (and all else for that matter) and the malicious inaccuracies and misstatements of facts in the Burton resolution is in writing for all to see...

The CRIME that Covered-up the Coup
Jim Kirwan
There’s a corporate dagger that has been leveled at the very heart of all that matters in the USA and the world today. The fact is that the role of government’s around the world have been nullified by those corporate powers that have taken control over the most pivotal points of life and promise within the global community. There is a key to this entire quagmire that can no longer be ignored, which is, the mega-crime committed on 911. So long as this government along ! with others in Europe and the wider world continue to spew lies about what happened on that day – then nothing can ever be changed!.
The enemy of the United States of America is located in Washington D.C., in Tel Aviv and to a lesser degree in London. This cabal has used and abused the events of 911 to create tyrannies and to advance murder and torture on a grand scale, while they continue to act as intermediaries for the Corporatocracy that is the real power hiding behind most governments...

More News From Ramadi, Blackhole of the Occupation
Brian Conley
...Qasem’s latest email covers the events of Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Ramadi: (...) US troops were attacked by some fighters ….the attacks were in the military base that is located in the agriculture collage. The fighters attacked the base with machine guns and mortars, the reaction of the US troops was to attack the houses that were located near their base and at night they moved their tanks in the streets and arrested many people and ins! pected many houses. Let me tell you what the inspection included. As usual, US soldiers were moving with tanks in the streets among the houses after midnight. They arrest people from any family that saw the fighters on their way to fighting location and they arrest any family that shows movment inside their house during US soldiers moving. Most arrest cases are when US soldiers notice that someone is still awake after midnight!!!...

Send us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses; just no Mexicans, please
Mike Whitney
One look at Bush’s face on Monday night told the whole story. It was like he could hear the guillotine clanking down Pennsylvania Ave to its resting place on the White House lawn. This is a whole new Bush; restless and hesitant, beads of sweat glistening on his brow, eyes blinking feverishly like the shutters on a broken camera. Whatever happened to "Mission Accomplished Bush", the strutting barnyard rooster, glowing and ! confident; or flight-deck George blowing kisses to the troops while he strode to the presidential podium in a snugly-fitted jumpsuit? Gone; completely gone. Monday night we saw the new Bush; 29% George; his popularity retreating faster than the glaciers in Hudson Bay. This is the Bush that Rove fished out of a saloon in El Paso and carved into the political locomotive of the new Republican century; the insecure, blue-blooded ne’er-do-well with a skull full of salmon row. Bush never would have tackled "immigration" 3 years ago. He didn’t have to. When he was on top of his game he could blow off his critics and do as he pleased; hacking away at taxes and flattening cities whose names he can’t pronounce. Now at 29% he has to go on national TV to try to stitch together his ever-dwindling base appealing to the lowest instincts of his hard-right constituency...

Gays flee as religious militias sentence them all to death
Daniel McGrory, TimesOnline
THE death threat was delivered to Karazan’s father early in the morning by a masked man wearing a police uniform. The scribbled note was brief. Karazan had to die because he was gay. In the new Baghdad, his sexuality warranted execution by the religious militias. The father was told that if he did not hand his son over, other family members would be killed. What scares the city’s residents is how the fanatics’ list of enemies i! s growing. It includes girls who refuse to cover their hair, boys who wear theirs too long, booksellers, liberal professors and prostitutes. Three shops known to sell alcohol were bombed yesterday in the Karrada shopping district (...) Mr Hili claims that Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the most revered spiritual figure in Iraq, provoked the murders by saying on his website in April last year that homosexuals should be killed in the "worst, most severe way" (...) He said: "We could never envisage this happening when Saddam was overthrown. I had no love for the former President, but his regime never persecuted the gay community"...

Iraq, Iran and the end of petrodollar: The waning influence of the USA in the Asian century
Bulent Gokay, Pravda.ru
...Six months after the Bush doctrine was announced, the new American doctrine was applied as a justification for an unprovoked war against Iraq by the neo-conservative administration of the US. Toppling Saddam Hussein's regime without the support of the UN, and in the face of strong opposition from traditional US allies, was a clear presentation of a new unilateralist American foreign policy. The '! regime change' in Baghdad was not an isolated event, but only an opening salvo in a much broader neo-conservative agenda. The neo-conservatives 'advocate a paradigm shift in which the United States spreads American values by asserting American power-by force, if necessary'. This agenda seeks to reshape American hegemonic practices according to old imperial doctrines, but with new post-colonial political and military tools...

Release Of Pentagon Images Direct Assault On 9/11 Truth Movement
Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones/Prison Planet.com
The release of new video images of Flight 77 hitting the Pentagon is both a direct assault against a 9/11 truth movement that has flourished in recent months and an attempt to reinforce the attendant propaganda of 9/11 in light of Bush's 29% approval rating. Before the release of the new frames news networks immediately went on the attack, saying that the images finally put to rest "conspiracy theori! es" and questions about the official story. In addition, Fox News commentators related with pensive looks and pursed lips that this footage answers the furore over secret NSA wiretaps and surveillance by 'reminding Americans why it was being done'...

The Tuesday attack occurred at about 7:30 a.m. in southern Baghdad, the U.S. command said. Iraqi Martyrs in Palestine 1948
Wafaa' Al-Natheema
...The link above includes a long list of the names of Iraqi martyrs. If it wasn't for the Iraqi army's involvement in the 1973 war, Damascus would have been under Israeli occupation. Simultaneously, we should give CREDITS to the Palestinians for wonderfully documenting this list. Sadly, we, Iraqis, did not document the Arab martyrs (from Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Yemen, Morocco, Sudan and Libya) who lost their lives for our Iraqi cause. Rig! ht before the 2003 war and during its first month, there has been an estimate of 7000 to 9000 Arab fighters who entered IRAQ to fight alongside IRAQIS, but what did we do for them? Many IRAQIS went even as far as discrediting the number and considering it one of Saddam Hussein's and the Baath's propaganda. Few reports were coming from western media about these Arab fighters being kicked in the head by the Kurdish peshmergeh legs and other non-Kurdish militias even when they were dead. Thousands of them were murdered, yet were unknown without any respect for their corps and without their parents' knowledge of their fate!! ...

The real assault on America
Paul Craig Roberts, Antiwar.com
The neoconservative Bush regime has adroitly used 9/11 to create a fear of terrorism among Americans that blinds Americans to the Bush regime's assault on our constitutional system. Americans have meekly acquiesced to the Bush regime's brutal assaults on civil liberties, human rights, the separation of powers, and statutory law, because Americans have been brainwashed to believe that the "war on terror" takes precedence and cannot be waged under the rule! s established by the Founding Fathers...

VIDEO: David Corn Confronts Rove On Lying About Plame Leak
Think progress
This morning, Karl Rove gave a speech at the American Enterprise Institute. During the question and answer session, David Corn of the Nation Magazine asked him why he fed White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan misinformation about his involvement in leaking Valerie Plame’s identity. (Rove told McClellan that he was "not involved.") Rove refused to answer. Watch it...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Tuesday, 16 May 2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.
...The newspaper ash-Shabab ("Youth") published by a Turkman group in the northern Iraqi city of al-Mawsil has published an article reporting that US occupation forces have in their possession materials indicating that US-backed "Prime Minister designate" Nuri al-Maliki was personally guilty of the murder of civilians. According to a report carried by Quds Press! , the article in ash-Shabab reported that the Americans have registers and testimony from the city of al-Hindiyah – Nuri al-Maliki’s home town – saying that he personally executed more than 10 local residents and officials just after the American invasion of Iraq in April 2003. The article said that the 10 individuals were arrested by militiamen of the pro-American Shi'i sectarian Da'wah Party, of which al-Maliki is a prominent leader. All of the 10 were members of the Arab Baath Socialist Party, army officers, or policemen. Some were Arab Sunnis of the al-Jannabiyin tribe. The newspaper asserted that he Americans had been retaining the evidence so that they can bring it out at any time that they might wish to get rid of al-Maliki...
