Israel Hasbara Committee - Attack and Taking of Prisoner

Blogger Thoughts: Was this staged when intelligence indicated that Iran was not going to cooperate with nuclear fuel enrichment suspension and talks?

Is the bin Laden mania a distration (one audio and two videos, second one announced not seen) related to the aggression by Israel?

Palestinian Terrorists Attack Israel from Gaza, Kidnap Soldier
IDF Operating in Gaza Following Hamas Claim of Responsibility

(IHC News, 25 June 2006) Palestinian terrorists entered Israel from Gaza via a tunnel under the security fence and attacked IDF positions in the area. Two soldiers were killed, one was kidnapped, and several others were wounded.

Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups claimed responsibility for the incursion, which caused residents in nearby communities to take cover in their homes.

“The [Israeli] government views the Palestinian Authority, including Abu Mazen [Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas] and the Palestinian Prime Minister as the people responsible for the serious incident that took place in Kerem Shalom,” Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said, hours after the attack on Sunday, 25 June 2006.

Though other high-level officials labeled it “severe,” harsh criticism came from the Right for the lack of IDF response to the ongoing attacks since last summer’s disengagement.

“A government that responds with restraint to rocket attacks on Sderot invites further strikes on soldiers and civilians in all fronts.” MK Effie Eitam (National Union) said, referring to Israel’s lack of response to the daily attacks that threaten civilians’ lives and have hit schools and sensitive infrastructure.

MK Uri Ariel (National Union-National Religious Party) also had tough words for the government’s handling of terrorism emanating from Gaza, saying reentering Gaza is the only way to stop the terror as it cannot be uprooted “from a distance.”

“The ‘escape’ from Gaza [Gaza Disengagement] has caused terror to pursue us everywhere in the form of Qassams and terror cells,” Ariel added.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Amir Peretz is said to be ready to order a large scale response inside Gaza. Early reports from the Sufah Crossing where the attack took place indicate IDF tanks and other forces are already operating inside Gaza.

Special IDF forces have been operating in the northern section of Gaza in recent months trying to find terror cells readying to launch Qassam rockets but have been largely unsuccessful in stopping the attacks.

One such unit is said to have captured two Hamas terrorists in an unusual operation on Saturday in southern Gaza.

Mustafa and Osama Muammar were arrested after a special unit that took them alive rather than having them killed in an air strike. The two were said to be have been involved in the planning of Sunday morning’s attack.
