Darkness and Light
When international law and science are silenced, the only outcome is darkness

Gabrele Zamparini, The Cat's dream
...On 20 March 2003 the governments of the United States and United Kingdom broke their solemn pledge [as they had also done with 2001 bombing of Afghanistan and the 1999 NATO bombing campaign in the Balkans] with the invasion of the sovereign country of Iraq, "an illegal act that contravened the UN charter" according to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. (2) The darkness tha! t they brought to the Iraqi people has already slaughtered hundreds of thousands of human lives and contaminated that land with nuclear and chemical wastes for thousands of years to come. The crime perpetrated by the Bush and Blair’s alliance is "the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes [Abu Ghraib, Falluja, Haditha, etc.] in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." The art of government has denied this basic truth to the people of the world (THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS) through that sophisticated propaganda apparatus that hypocritically calls itself "mainstream media"...

Reasonable Doubts about the Guilt and Death of the Deceptive "Mr. Zarqawi"
Dr. Richard Marsden,
When "Zarqawi" was killed off the evening of Wednesday June 7, 2006, at a house on the outskirts of the village of Hibhib, outside Baquba, I wasn’t at all surprised. Even a fictional character has to die some time. This one had lost all credibility. The plot had become unbelievable. So I argued a little over month ago, following release of the embarrassing Zarqawi promotional video and the fortuitous find by the Americ! ans of some "out-takes", showing him decked-out in American gear and fumbling his M-249. It was then I knew for sure that this "Zarqawi" was an impostor and his entire "narrative" a work of military deception....

A TALE TO TWO TERRORISTS
Malcom Lagauche
...However, Bush is the ultimate liar and hypocrite when it comes to abetting terrorists. There are two world-class terrorists today who will never come to justice because they are protected by the U.S. Both would make al-Qaida jealous in their deeds of killing innocent people. But, most U.S. citizens have never heard of one: Luis Posada. The other one, Ilyad Allawi is still vaguely remembered as a former prime minister of the "new" Iraq....

Nakba Revisionism
Xymphora
Holocaust Revisionism is a crime in many places. Denying the reality of the Holocaust, or even quibbling about its details as established by the official Zionist historians, can land you in jail. Why isn’t there a crime of Nakba Revisionism? The Nakba is the forced exodus of Palestinians from their homeland caused by violence and threats of violence by Jews who were, in effect, clearing land for the new state of Israel (an idea that may have come from Stalin). As part of the general m! ythology of Israel, the fact of the Nakba was almost entirely hidden from Official Western History until relatively recently. There is now absolutely no doubt that it occurred, and no excuse for claiming that it didn’t occur. Anyone who claims that the birth of Israel was without sin, or says something like "a land without people for a people without land", is a Nakba Revisionist...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 18 June 2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr,
In a dispatch posted at 2pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US aircraft struck a civilian house in the al-Karmah area northeast of al-Fallujah, totally destroying the house and killing eight members of one family. Six others were wounded in the air raid which took place in the early hours of Saturday morning. A witness told Quds Press that the American attack took place at 4:30! am Saturday morning. He said that American troops surrounded the village for hours as they raided houses. At that time US aircraft were prowling the skies overhead. Then they struck the house, killing eight civilians including women and children, and wounding six more. The witness said that the Americans also captured four women whom they took away with them to an unknown destination...

The Haditha Doctor and The Media Dissemblers
Sarah Meyer
On 2 June 2006, PipeLineNews.org published an unsigned, scurrilous article entitled Questions Arise About Haditha Doctor - Wahid al-Obeidi - Central Figure In "Massacre" Case. This article questioned the account "Dr. Wahid al-Obeidi" had given about being arrested and beaten in Haditha in October 2005. The article then said, "Wahid is associated with the pro-terrorist Brussels Tribunal, a European-based anti-American group which counts among its members Sad! dam's favorite film maker Scott Ritter and Saddam's defense attorney Ramsey Clark." Pipeline News has confused and then misused their facts. The name of the Director of the Haditha Hospital is Dr. Walid al-Obeidi. Dr. Walid al-Obeidi is not a member of the BRussells Tribunal. It is Dr. Abdul Wahab Al Obeidi, member of "Freedom Voice Society for Human Rights", who is on the advisory committee of the BRussells Tribunal. Why is the (misnamed) Dr. Walid al-Obeidi being slandered? He saw the bullets in the bodies from the Haditha massacre, thus opening up the case against American troops...

GI Special 4F17: "They're Grumbling" - June 19, 2006
Thomas F. Barton
We speak with Peter Laufer, a Vietnam war resister and author of the new book, "Mission Rejected: U.S. Soldiers Who Say No to Iraq."
AMY GOODMAN: Can you talk about the number of men and women who have refused to go to Iraq to begin with or to redeploy – or Afghanistan?
PETER LAUFFER: It's an incredibly important question, Amy, and we really don't have any way to have a hard figure on that total.
But, anecdotally -- as I did the research for the book and talked to one after another of these soldiers rejecting the mission -- anecdotally, I would have to say the numbers are big and growing because they talk to me about members of their unit who, even if they're not overtly rejecting the war by disobeying orders, or going AWOL, or deserting, or filing for conscientious objector status, they are grumbling.
They’re over there unhappy with what is going on, displeased with the policy; and they're opposing the war.

Zarqawi Dog and Pony Show Rolls On
Kurt Nimmo
Once again, the intel op known as "al-Qaeda" has posted an internet communiqué, this time threatening to "avenge" the killing of the al-Zarqawi stand-in patsy. It’s simply amazing the corporate media reports this nonsense without critical comment, or laughing out loud, as they reported without comment the professed fact two 500lb bombs dropped on al-Zarqawi’s "hideout" vaporized walls, produced a large crater, flattened a palm grove, and yet his body was essentially u! nscathed...

US military airforce strikes at residential quarters in Ramadi
Arabmonitor
Hundreds of US occupation forces, aided by Iraqi armed forces, are on rampage in Ramadi. The troops are controlling all access points to the city which has been cordoned off since 10 June, deprived of water and electricity. US military airforce is repeatedly striking at residential areas, while ground forces roam through the streets calling on the residents to evacuate the city. Sheikh Fassal Jaoud, former governor of the Anbar province de! clared the situation is catastrophic and residents fear the US occupation forces are planning a mass offensive like that on Falluja in November 2004, saying "the fearful city is haunted by memories of the battles that raged in nearby Fallujah in 2004...

GI Special 4F16: Two U.S. Soldiers Captured - June 18, 2006
Thomas F. Barton
2 U.S. Soldiers Captured By Insurgents
American soldiers on Saturday went house to house, scanned the streets from helicopters and dove into irrigation canals to try to find two of their comrades who had been reported captured by insurgents in an ambush south of the capital.
The two Americans, who were not identified, were taken prisoner at dusk on Friday by a group of masked guerrillas who mounted a surprise attack on their Humvee near Yusufiya, a town that is a stronghold of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, Iraqis in the area said.
The American command in Baghdad confirmed that two Americans were missing on Friday after insurgents attacked a checkpoint they had set up on a canal crossing near the Euphrates River.
One soldier was killed in the attack, which appeared to be an elaborate lure intended to isolate part of the force.

SOS Ramadi
Inge Van de Merlen, BRussells Tribunal
...On June 9, the first attacks began. The western media resembles the sleeping beauty. Except for an article in the LA Times, at the time of writing this article, no report on the operation can be found in the western press on the internet. All have their eyes still on Zarqawi in a media-induced trance Meanwhile, on Monday, 12 June, Al-Quds reported that the US Army had issued an ultimatum to Ramadi residents.[21] By June 15, they should turn in all the resis! tance fighters – what an irrational demand! – or face a massive attack. Again, as in Fallujah, those civilians who have no financial means to leave or no place to go, will be portrayed as 'terrorists’ or 'foreign fighters’ after they are killed, in order to clean up the face of this dirty war....

The Smoking Cable: US Ambassador tells it like it REALLY is in Iraq
Magorn, Daily Kos
To hear our Fearless Leader tell it; things In Iraq are going great and they're only getting better. Bush even went so far as to demonstrate the progress towards peace and stability in Iraq by sharply banking into Baghdad Airport for a quick, absolutely clandestine,(for security reasons), hello. He apparently wanted to see first hand how peaceful and prosperous, the insides of the most secure buildings in the Green Zone ar! e, when 70,000 troops patrol the surrounding city.. An Boy Howdy, he was certainly impressed; he held up Iraq as the model for transforming the Middle East. His Iraqi listeners however, could be forgiven for suspecting Bush had inhaled a little too much of the glue he used to put the model together however. A leaked secret State Dept cable from the US embassy in Baghdad paints a much grimmer picture of a Baghdad and the situation in Iraq, and puts lie to the Sunshine and flowers being offered by W.

How US hid the suicide secrets of Guantanamo
David Rose, The Observer
...Meanwhile, three US reporters at the base were ordered to leave. According to a Pentagon spokesman quoted by the US media, the reason was that two barred British reporters - us - had threatened to sue if the Americans were allowed to stay. This was, of course, untrue. Closing Guantanamo to the media meant there were no reporters there as the Naval Criminal Investigative Service team went about its work; none when pathologists conducted post ! mortem examinations; and none last Friday when, after a Muslim ceremony conducted by a military chaplain, the first body - Ahmed's - was prepared to be flown home. It was also impossible to gauge the impact of the deaths on the 460 inmates...

IRAQ: US escalates assault on Ramadi
Doug Lorimer
..."The situation is catastrophic", said Sheik Fassal Gaood, the former governor of Anbar province, whose capital is Ramadi. Air Heads: The Win-Win Wars of Bushist Fantasy
Chris Floyd
Airstrikes Rise In Afghanistan as Fighting Intensifies (Washington Post)
Excerpts: As fighting in Afghanistan has intensified over the past three months, the U.S. military has conducted 340 airstrikes there, more than twice the 160 carried out in the much higher-profile war in Iraq, according to data from the Central Command, the U.S. military headquarters for the Middle East (...) U.S. officials say the activity is a response to an increasingly aggressive Taliban, whose leaders realize that long-term trends are against them as the power of the Afghan central government grows.
They really are one-trick ponies, these guys. Anytime one of their wars goes wrong – the enemy grows stronger, more civilians die – they claim it's the "last throes," desperation, one last wild toss of the dice, etc. The worse things get, the better they're about to get; this has been the constant refrain throughout the Iraq fiasco, and, as Afghanistan – the forgotten but uncompleted war – heats up further, we'll hear it again and again from there as well...

What has humanity come to?
Ren Jaluddin Ropeta, Vice Chair, Moro Christian Peoples Alliance (MCPA)
Amid the unjust wars in nations whose only crime is their aspiration for genuine sovereignty, all of humanity faces this question. Poor people in a rich land torn by an unjust war has been the tragic irony that befell on the people of Iraq. Three years after the US’s invasion and occupation of Iraq, justified by a monstrous lie about weapons of mass destruction, it continues be ravaged by US-weaponry manned by sold! iers who are nonetheless victims of their own country’s greed and folly. A parallel situation, with a somewhat subtle and diffused complexion can be drawn from the experience of the Muslims in the Philippines...
