Must read material...

By Joseph

Another CIA whistleblower. Over on The Next Hurrah, emptywheel has a terrific piece on "Jerry Doe," a CIA analyst who was fired because he refused to peddle false info about Iraq and two other countries. Here's a fascinating bit:
Also, Doe's complaint suggests this Iraq (and Iran?) War effort didn't start with George Bush. The first time Doe was required to bury intelligence was in 2000, before Bush was inaugurated and probably before he was (s)elected. Which reminds me that the Niger embassy in Rome was burgled (and therefore the plot to forge the Niger documents was presumably in place) in early January 2001, before Bush was inaugurated. In other words, they've been setting up their Neocon moves since before Bush was put into office.
I'd offer a word of caution here. As I've mentioned a couple of times, there were two plots involving those Niger docs. At first, the idea was to scam the French, and the motive may have been purely monetary. That said, I have no trouble accepting that the neocons had set gears into motion during the Clinton years.

Wilkes and Shirlington Limo
: Ken Silverstein of Harpers has published two important follow-ups (here and here) to his important "Red Lights on Capitol Hill" piece.

"Cocaine One": Daniel Hopsicker has an excellent follow-up to his initial report on the coke-laden aircraft owned by the GOP-linked conman Brent Kovar. Brent's partner in his various shady enterprises is his dad, Glenn.
Here's the beauty part...Chairman Glenn Kovar liked to boast about his long-standing ties to the CIA.
So did Brent Wilkes. At first, many people presumed that Wilkes was just talking out of his rectum -- but now we know a great deal more about the history of Wilkes and Foggo.

So why would American spooks ally themselves with a family like the Kovars? And if the Kovars were just shysters, then who arranged for the Mexican authorities to look the other way as the pilot of that busted aircraft made his escape? We'll be coming back to this story...

GOP lies: Alex at the Martini Republic has a nice piece on the rewritten history found in a mass emailing by GOP chairman Ken Mehlman. Of course, "history" is a record of events that occurred in "reality"-- and reality has a well-known liberal bias.

Finally...
Ever notice that quite a few recent Bush photos look Photoshopped, even though they weren't? WHAT A FACE! No kidding -- this man could have been one of the great clowns of the classic era. In image 1 (below), we can see an homage to Harry Langdon. In image 2, we see Harpo Marx -- remember how Harpo looked when he got angry? And in image 3, I scry the ghost of Stan Laurel...
