BANCO SANTANDER CENTRAL HISPANO: Biggest bank in euro zone posts 26 percent rise in first quarter

Net profit rose to euro1.49 billion (US$1.86 billion) in the quarter from euro1.19 billion (US$1.49 billion) a year earlier, the Madrid-based bank said Friday.
