Comment:
The Republican Party and the conservative movement have been destroyed by a toxic alliance of neoconservatives and Christian fundamentalists -- neither group could care less about traditional conservative values of limited government and fiscal responsibility. What Jeff Jacoby fails to mention is that he himself, as a card-carrying neoconservative, contributed to the ruination of the Republican Party.
The Democratic Party, which is also controlled by neoconservatives (neoliberals like Joseph Lieberman and Hillary Clinton) is in even worse shape than the Republican Party. We are on the verge of a major political revolution and realignment of forces in America. Thanks to the neocons and fundies, all the old political categories are coming crashing down. Either you are against the Judeo-Christians fascists or you are with the Judeo-Christian fascists. This is now the most significant political divide in American politics.
