Photo taken from Observation Point up on the rim. Angels Landing is the prominent rock buttress jutting out on the right side of the canyon. I went on to climb that later in the day.
There are up to 8 distinct layers of sandstone in Zion Canyon. The Virgin River has carved out this magnificent canyon over time.
It is interesting to note that the top layer of rock in Zion is the same layer as the bottom layer of Bryce Canyon. And the bottom layer of Zion is the same layer as the top layer in the Grand Canyon.
