[political-research] Noam Chomsky on Mearsheimer and Walt

Chomsky predictably performs his tireless Israeli gatekeeping functions on the political left.

One of the main tricks that Israeli gatekeepers like Noam Chomsky and Stephen Zunes are using is to blame the oil industry, rather than the Israel lobby, for the Iraq War, even though the evidence overwhelmingly contradicts that claim.

What is one of the chief consequences of this gatekeeping?  The Democratic Party cannot get a handle on stopping the Iraq War.  If you are too timid the identify the lobby which has been chiefly responsible for the war, you can't mount an effective opposition to the war.

Some key gatekeepers:

Israel lobby > alternative media gatekeepers > AIM (Accuracy in Media)
Israel lobby > alternative media gatekeepers > Al Franken

Chomsky for some reason seems to find difficult to impossible to mention any of the following parties when discussing the origins of the Iraq War, even though they were the most conspicuous and influential ringleaders of the war.  Most of them are now the most conspicuous and influential ringleaders in agitating for an American attack on Iran:

neoconservatism > key components > organizations > ADL (Anti-Defamation League), AEI (American Enterprise Institute), AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee), AJC (American Jewish Committee), Bilderbergers, CFR (Council on Foreign Relations), Commentary, CPD (Committee on the Present Danger), CPMAJO (Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations), CSP (Center for Security Policy), FDD (Foundation for the Defense of Democracies), Fox News, FrontPage Magazine, Hudson Institute, Jerusalem Post, Jewish Press, Jewish World Review, JINSA (Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs), Likud, MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute), Middle East Forum, Mossad, National Review, New Republic, One Jerusalem, OSP (Office of Special Plans), PNAC (Project for the New American Century), Toward Tradition, Townhall.com, Wall Street Journal, Weekly Standard, WINEP (Washington Institute for Near East Policy

neoconservatism > key components > individuals > Abram Shulsky, Barbara Amiel, Benjamin Netanyahu, Bernard Lewis, Bruce Kovner, Charles Krauthammer, Clifford May, Conrad Black, Daniel Lapin, Daniel Pipes, Danielle Pletka, David Brooks, David Frum, David Gelernter, David Horowitz, David Wurmser, Donald Kagan, Douglas Feith, Elliott Abrams, Eliot Cohen, Eric Edelman, Frank Gaffney, Jack Abramoff, James Woolsey, Jeff Jacoby, Joel Mowbray, John Bolton, John Podhoretz, Jonah Goldberg, Joshua Bolten, Joshua Muravchik, Judith Miller, Ken Adelman, Ken Mehlman, Laurie Mylroie, Lawrence Kaplan, Lewis Libby, Martin Peretz, Max Boot, Meyrav Wurmser, Michael Ledeen, Michael Medved, Michael Rubin, Mortimer Zuckerman, Morton Kondracke, Natan Sharansky, Norman Podhoretz, Paul Wolfowitz, Reuel Marc Gerecht, Rich Lowry, Richard Perle, Robert Kagan, Rupert Murdoch, Steven Emerson, Victor Davis Hanson, William Bennett, William Kristol
Chomsky also always fails to mention those oil industry-connected members of the American power elite who were highly skeptical of the Iraq War, or outright hostile to it, including the inner circle of the father of the current president.

Dick Cheney, whose approval rating among the American people as a whole stands at 18%, received an enthusiastic and jingoistic welcome at the recent AIPAC conference, which was largely a cheerleading session for promoting an American war against Iran.
